Living the Good Life has music every night Tuesday through Saturday, and tonight it is Dougie L’s turn to entertain. The Café at Adele’s is always a good choice for date night, but when they also have music on their veranda, you’ve got all the ingredients for a memorable night.

Free ice cream and a concert featuring the Capital City Community Band can be found tonight at the First United Methodist Church on King Street. You’ll find free pool, a nice beer selection, and great drinks at Remedy’s Bar on Williams Street tonight. Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery celebrates the paper and book sculptures of mother-daughter team, My Thousand Words, at a meet and greet reception tonight. What to do, what to do? That’s the question that starts most every weekend. If you’ve got kids, test their mettle at the annual Capitol City Triathlon. Open to kids of all ages, they will bike, run, and swim their way to the finish line. The third annual Sassabration event kicks off with a multi-colored, costume bike parade from the Brewery Arts Center to the celebration at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Multiple bands, vendors, non-profit booths, free swimming at the Carson Hot Springs, not to mention the yummy food and drink available make this a not-to-be-missed festival.

Great live music tonight can be found on the Veranda at Adele’s, at Living the Good Life, on the stage at Sassafras, in the Glen Eagles Lounge, and at Battle Born Harley Davidson's Bike Night. The Carson Library starts the day with story time for the little ones, and ends with an exciting science presentation featuring Fire and Ice. Learn a little about Nevada with photographer Ernie Winters at the Gold Hill Hotel. He’ll take you back in time with color photographs of Virginia City in the 50s.

What are you in the mood for? The Third and Curry Farmers Market is always a great place to start off your weekend. Kids won’t mind getting up early for the Young Eagle airplane flights at the Carson City Airport – they are free of charge for kids 8 – 17, you just need to be on time for registration. The Annual Chili Cook-off returns to Glen Eagles this weekend; with live music, a craft fair, and lots of yummy stuff to eat, raising money for Honor Flight has never tasted so good. Bikers won’t want to miss the weekly party at Battle Born Harley with house band, the Smoken Rabbits; all vehicles are welcome to join in the fun and get some grub from the Rollin Pizza Pie food truck. The whole family will enjoy tonight’s Twilight Concert with the Sextones at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch. Former investigative reporter Frank Mullen to channel Dan DeQuille at Gold Hill Hotel

Journalist Frank X. Mullen will channel a colleague from the past March 3 at the Gold Hill Hotel’s Friday Night Showcase when he offers a presentation on “Dan DeQuille, The Washoe Giant.”

DeQuille was a compatriot of Sam Clemens, aka Mark Twain, when both worked at the Territorial Enterprise in the 1860s. However, unlike Twain, DeQuille stayed on the Comstock for more than 30 years, and didn’t achieve the fame of his fellow journalist Twain.

NDOT reopens State Route 342 near Virginia City following flood damage

CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Transportation has reopened State Route 342 in the Virginia City and Gold Hill area following damage from last week’s flood.

NDOT moves quickly with flood-related road repair contracts

CARSON CITY, Nev. – In just the first days after several northwestern Nevada state roads were damaged by flooding, the Nevada Department of Transportation has let out emergency contracts and contractors are already being dispatched to repair erosion and other flood-related roadway damage. The repairs follow tours of the damage taken by Governor Sandoval and local officials both before and after the flood.

UPDATE 6:08AM TUESDAY: Highway 395 through the Carson Valley remains closed southbound, but open northbound, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation, NDOT. Southbound detour at Jacks Valley Valley Road to Foothill.

UPDATE 5:15PM: Traffic continues to crawl along Jacks Valley Road and Foothill due to the Highway 395 closure.
One lane of Highway 395 northbound has reopened at Stephanie. Southbound is still closed.

UPDATE 2:45PM: Both the northbound and southbound lanes on Highway 395 are closed due to flooding along the Cradlebaugh Bridge in Carson Valley, said Carson City Undersheriff Steve Albertsen. Southbound Highway 395 motorists are advised to take Jacks Valley Road and connect to Foothill Road. The Nevada Highway Patrol is turning people around at the RV park, he said.

Carson City deputies make probation violation and warrant arrests

A 41-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested Friday, 11:12 p.m. in the area of East William Street and Rand Avenue for a felony warrant alleging violation of bail conditions, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Erik Holland Art Show in Gold Hill

Come to Gold Hill to see Erik Holland’s show of recent work from his travels around the state! It’s at Maynard Station on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 11 and 12. There will be an opening reception on Friday, 5 to 9 pm with refreshments and a no host bar.

The show continues on Saturday from 2 to 6 pm, again with a no-host bar — this IS a saloon, after all. This is a great opportunity to have a piece of original work from one of Nevada’s most respected artists. And his work is still affordable — besides the framed pieces on the walls there will be a table of unframed work, most of it $99.
