December 21 is the Silver Stage Food Pantry’s fifth annual “Shopping with the Elves” event. From 1-5 p.m., parents who are guests of the Food Pantry can shop for gifts for their children.

The event includes a chance for children to visit with Santa and have holiday refreshments while their parents shop. The Pantry is in need of gifts for ages infant to 18 years.

Home-bound Seniors: The Pantry also welcomes donations of gifts for seniors. They deliver baskets and gifts to 40 home-bound elders, and sing carols to them as well.

Olde Time Christmas brings Santa Parade to downtown Carson City this Saturday

Santa will be making an appearance with a music-filled parade through downtown Carson City this Saturday, Dec. 8. Children, veterans, and community members are welcomed to join in the parade to help escort Santa through the town.

Carson City restaurant pilot project to involve 30 eateries wins recycling program grant

The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Division of Environmental Protection’s Recycling Program has awarded grants to six Nevada organizations, including a Carson City pilot project involving 30 restaurants.

Carson City artists win two divisions in Statewide Recycled Art Contest

Two Carson City artists, a school student and an adult, placed in the statewide recycled art contest to raise awareness of recycling. First place in the adult division went to Bretta Leach, and third place in the K-5 Division went to Sean T., both of Carson City.

On a recent visit to Oregon, I spent three days harvesting produce from our friends’ garden before temperatures could kill cold-sensitive crops. We harvested bushels of tomatoes, four kinds of peppers including "Jimmy Nardellos" and jalapeños, lemon cucumbers, "Malibu" green beans, artichokes, golden raspberries, basil and figs.

A new medical marijuana indoor grow facility is in its final stages of planning, and if it is approved, would be built at 5700 Morgan Mill Road in East Carson City.

Indoor Garden Farms, LLC, has applied for a Special Use Permit from the Carson City Planning Commission to construct a building used to cultivate and produce marijuana for the State of Nevada.

DAYTON — The Central Lyon Fire Protection District has lifted burning restrictions effective Monday, Oct. 15. Open burning is permitted with a burn permit.
