Get Healthy Carson City: Got a flu shot?

The holidays are approaching. Have you gotten a flu shot? Carson City Health and Human Services encourages everyone who has not yet been vaccinated to protect themselves and their loved ones during the holiday season by getting a flu shot. National Influenza Vaccination Week, Dec. 4-10, is a great opportunity to remind people that flu shots are beneficial and effective even if they are received in December and January.

Free Flu Shots for Food

Carson City Health and Human Services is collecting food donations for its annual Homeless Christmas. From November 15 through December 9, donate 2 cans of food and receive a voucher for a free flu shot or nasal spray vaccine, redeemable during our regularly scheduled immunization hours on Thursdays.

Healthy Communities Coalition: Collaboration Leads to Results

The Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey hosts special speakers during public meetings held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center at 2945 Ft. Churchill Road. Carson City Flu Vaccination Day on Oct. 16

Saturday, Oct. 16 is Carson City Community Flu Vaccination Day, with vaccines offered to the community at no cost.
It is the seventh year for the program. Last year, there were 8,000 seasonal flu shots given and 21,000 H1N1 shots administered, health officials said.
Approximately 5,000 of the doses have been ordered and will be ready to administer on Oct. 16, said Susan Pintar, county health officer.
There will be three locations for the free community vaccination day, which will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are:
— Walk-through at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive

Flu shots offered at Dayton Food Pantry

Flu shots for anyone over 6 months of age, and commodities food distribution for those in need from Dayton, Silver City and Stagecoach takes place at the Dayton Food Pantry at 4 Enterprise Way and Highway 50 in Dayton on Oct. 21, between noon and 5 p.m.

Health and Human Services recommends that everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine. On Oct. 21 only, between noon and 5pm, Carson Health nurses will be able to provide the following types of flu shots at the Dayton Food Pantry at 4 Enterprise Way:

Everybody can now get swine flu shots, and in some cases, free if they want. The Carson City Health Dept. will start offering them free, starting December 21st.

State health officials say their stockpiles of Swine Flu (H1N1) shots are high enough that they will be able to offer them to everyone, regardless of health risk status, starting December 18th.
