While I fully respect Kirk's decision to link comment posting to facebook, and also understand the reason he gives, I don't think it is the right step.

I've never heard about the major site "Techcrunch" which he mentions as having successfully implemented this, but I am sure everybody has heard about the major sites Los Angeles Times and CNN that implemented it as well and have since gone back to offering the traditional method of sign-up. Simply because too many participants refused to open a facebook account just to be able to comment; they simply don't trust this social network.

Nearly 2,000 students are getting their hands dirty in school gardens, thanks to a USDA grant received by Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey, a private nonprofit. That is the latest Facebook wall post from a former Northern Nevada resident and her family living in Japan who have made plans to leave the beleagured country in the wake of the earthquakes and tsunami that left the island nation devastated.

Alyson Meidell Jenkins, 33, along with many other Americans, have made plans to leave Japan immediately.

Pyramid Lake is located about 35 miles Northeast of Reno, and is the property of and managed by the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.

Pyramid Lake is known as being North America’s most beautiful desert lake and home to many year round recreational activities.

The lake occupies 112,000 surface acres inside the reservation boundary and has a shoreline of approximately 125 miles.

The lake has no outlet and is a residual body remaining from the prehistoric Great Lake Lahontan water body.

Former Northern Nevada resident Alyson Meidell Jenkins reports that she and her family are safe but shaken after a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit Japan's eastern coast, causing a devastating tsunami that killed at least 10,000 and widespread damage.

Recent indicators show tourism at Lake Tahoe South Shore is improving, according to the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority.

December occupancy was up three percent compared to last year (Smith Travel Research). The No. 1 ski destination in the U.S. (Rand McNally 2011; TripAdvisor 2010) has seen a rise of 1.7 percent through Reno-Tahoe International Airport since July; 14 percent more skiers and snowboarders on the slopes, increased bookings over holiday weekends, and advance reservations for summer.

In 2010, McCall Realty of South Lake Tahoe pledged to donate $20,000 of annual profits to five non-profit organizations benefitting the youth of South Shore. CARSON CITY – Secretary of State Ross Miller says the time is ripe to get a substantial campaign finance reform package through the Legislature, and with Gov. Brian Sandoval and lawmakers of both parties in agreement on the need for change, he may be right.
