Here's what's happening Saturday:

What a week it was Carson City, and it isn't even over yet. Heading into Friday, May 3, 2019, we're looking at continued sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s. There's a host of activities Friday and, looking ahead, a bevy of fun Saturday including a Mother's Day craft fair at the Carson City Community Center, a Star Wars themed bicycle safety day, a wine, cheese and dessert ride aboard the V&T, an early opening of the downtown farmer's market, the May Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, a memorial walk, presentations, comedy, live music and more. CARSON CITY — For more than 7 years, students at Fritsch Elementary School have been provided opportunities to elaborate and expound upon their artistic abilities. With the assistance of the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) the Artist in Residence program has brought in local artists from the community to teach students a variety of art mediums in classes.

CARSON CITY — Set for Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, at Fritsch Elementary School, the Bicycle Fun & Safety Day will benefit the Carson City Schools Foundation. Sponsored by Carson Tahoe Health and hosted by the Carson City School District, the Nevada Department of Transportation, Safe Routes to School, local bike clubs and shops, the inaugural event will serve as a proving ground to acquaint experienced and less experienced bike riders with their eco-friendly transport mechanisms.

Hello Carson City. We're heading into Sunday, April 28, 2019 with another fabulous Spring day ahead with highs in the low 70s. Events lined up include a cancer center benefit bow shoot hosted by Clear Creek Bowmen, a Muscle Powered bike ride, a Bee City USA Earth Week presentation, an open house at the Wungnema House in Mills Park, a Carson City Symphony concert and more. Enjoy your day.

As the school year comes to an end, the 2018-2019 Carneta yearbook staff can finally slow down and take a breath. At the end of the week before Spring Break, at 8:30 p.m., the final pages were submitted, and the book was officially finished. After months of interviewing, photographing, and editing, the book is currently being printed by Walsworth Publishing Co., in Marceline, Kansas.

Headed into Saturday, April 27, 2019 we're looking at another picture-perfect spring weather day and cool overnight temperatures. There's lots of activities ahead, including a colorful fun run at Mills Park, a free paper and document recycling event hosted by Debug Computer, a prescription drug roundup, the Silver State's own celebration of the Aloha State, a Carson High School speech team fundraiser at Flavors of India, art showings and sales and a fundraiser at Flat Earth Pizza for a wonderful Carson City woman who is in the throes of cancer. CARSON CITY — Nicolas Jacques, music teacher at Carson Middle School, was honored last night as the Carson City School District’s Educator of the Year. Additionally, James “Jim” Pike, special needs school bus driver for transportation, was recognized as the Education Support Professional (ESP) Employee of the Year for the district.

Carson City's Pokemon Go! club gave back to the community on Monday by meeting up for a trash cleanup, while also catching some Pokemon.

The students of Mark Twain Elementary School will host their fourth annual community-wide “My School Color Run” Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Mills Park in Carson City.

Good morning Carson City, and Happy Easter! Today will be more of the same with partly cloudy skies, gentle breezes, possible showers, with a high of 62 degrees and a low of 37 degrees. On the schedule today we have day two of egg hunting at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, an Easter Sunday service at the Community Center, a community bike ride, and more!

The Carson City School District will hold its next school board meeting in Senator Square inside Carson High School this Tuesday, April 23 beginning at 6 p.m.

Agenda items include an award ceremony, announcements, upcoming activities at the high schools and more.

Good morning Carson City. Today is Sunday, April 14 and we are officially one week away from Easter. Today is going to be a bit breezy and cloudy, but the high will be 63 degrees with a low of 43, so at least we aren't freezing. Check below to see what events await you today in our capital city.

Here we are, entering the end of the work week. We welcome Friday, April 12, 2019 with a forecast calling for mostly sunny skies with a daytime high in the low to mid 50s. Not bad. The weekend is shaping up nicely with sunshine and a warming trend. There's plenty on tap today and tonight around town. Enjoy.

Headed into Thursday, April 11, 2019 we welcome Carson City to another day where weather forecasters say there's a chance of rain and maybe even a few snow showers mixed in. Beyond the weather we're looking at a blockbuster day and night filled will activities throughout town. From library presentations, a TV show casting call at the Carson Nugget, an afternoon hike, to a train history presentation, a book signing at the Brewery Arts Center, a CHS theater performance and the Carson City movie screening premier of "The Mustang" filmed at the historic Nevada State Prison, there's something for everyone. Enjoy!

UPDATE 1:05PM: According to Lyon County Sheriff's Office Lt. Abel Ortiz, the man who was believed to be carrying a rifle, was instead carrying a pellet gun and had been shooting squirrels at a park near the elementary school. Lt. Ortiz said the man knew that he had made a mistake and was embarrassed for creating the situation. The lieutenant added that the schools did what they were supposed to and there was no threat.

UPDATE 12:35PM: Here's the latest from the Lyon County School District via Facebook. "The precautionary Lock-In at all three Dayton area schools were lifted as of 12:13 p.m. As a result of the prompt actions of law enforcement, school operations have proceeded as normal with all students and staff safe and secure."

Schools in the Dayton area went on voluntary lockdown late Wednesday morning after a report of someone driving around the Dayton High School campus in a pickup with a rifle in the truck, Lyon County Manager Jeff Page said. The voluntary lockdown was a precaution, said Page who contacted Lyon County sheriff's office officials.

Kindergarten registration and possible action to approve proposed changes to the Carson City School District Policy 510, Health Examinations to be topics of discussion at the Carson City School District board meeting 7 p.m. April 9 in the Sierra Room at the Community Center located at 851 East William Street.

The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile operated through Nevada Health Centers will be making stops in Carson City and Silver Springs this month to provide oral healthcare to children.

Welcome Carson City to Sunday, March 31, 2019. The last day of the month will bring sunny skies and a daytime high somewhere in the low 60s. Ideal spring weather before the next system arrives Monday bringing with it warmer temperatures but showers as well. Today there's art gallery showings, two children's theater performances, a bike ride and a tour of the stone Wungnema House at Mills Park.

Afraid of Bugs? Not Joshua Thornton of Skeleton Skin Tattoo. After three long hours and five artists simultaneously tattooing a trail of 420 ants throughout his body, Josh Thornton has received the Guinness World Record Title for Most Insects Tattooed on the Body.

Two upcoming dances offered by two Carson City schools are aimed at family participation, with parents serving as dance partners to their children.

CARSON CITY — A total of 93 Career and Technical Education (CTE) and HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students competed in the Nevada State Leadership Conference held at the Rio in Las Vegas March 18-20.

There were a total of 74 students from Carson High School (CHS), 6 from Pioneer High School (PHS) and 13 from Carson Middle School (CMS). More than 1,000 students from across the state of Nevada competed in more than 40 medical competition events.

There is something about the start of Spring that makes Sundays seem more pleasant; despite the fact that the weekend is on its downhill slide. There are always pleasant things to do in Carson City come rain, snow, wind or shine.

When I was about 12 years old, my family took a trip down along the east side of the Sierra Nevada on our way to Lake Havasu, California, during Spring Break 1986.

All six of us piled into the family Ford Econoline Trail Wagon, brand new at the time, and set out to break in the new set of wheels.

Fremont Elementary School PTA is hosting our First Mother & Son Dance! This event is open to all ages in our community. The dance will be on April 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Governor's Mansion located at 606 Mountain Street in Carson City.

Meet at Fremont Elementary School, 1511 Firebox Road in Carson City, in the south parking lot next to the Linear Ditch Trail.

Ride will normally consist of two loops which are 10-15 miles long each. The ride pace will vary depending on rider level, but will usually be about a 12-16 mph pace. This is a "no drop" ride so no one is left behind.

All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, a helmet, and closed toed shoes.
