Paul Dominique Laxalt, a former Nevada Governor, United States Senator, Lieutenant Governor and District Attorney, and one of former President Ronald Reagan’s closest friends in politics, died at a healthcare facility in Northern Virginia on Monday. He was 96.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Mike Smith, owner of Shiny Shoes in downtown Carson City, last Sunday to talk about his "Ideas on Tap" concept as a monthly community event in the Nevada state capital.

Nevada agencies and organizations have worked hard to spread awareness of archaeological and historic preservation efforts throughout the Silver State, encouraging both residents and visitors to explore and learn about Nevada’s significant archaeological and historical treasures.

Mother Nature could not have picked a better weekend for sunshine and warm temperatures in the Nevada state capital as Carson City celebrated Earth Day with a garden festival Sunday at the historic Foreman-Roberts House, 1207 North Carson Street.

What better way to celebrate Earth Day and Earth Week than gorgeous weather that you just can’t help but enjoy. Join Muscle Powered and our Parks and Recreation Department at the Silver Saddle Ranch for a presentation and trash mob. Kids will love the Carnival at Bordewich Elementary School, and it helps raise funds for a local Cub Scout Pack. In honor of Earth Day, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada and ComputerCorps will be hosting a “Recycle for Kids” clothing and electronic recycling event on Saturday, April 28th in the Carson Mall parking lot from 9am to 1pm.

Proceeds from donations benefit mentoring for local at-risk children and electronics for children, the disabled, seniors and others in need.

Carson City is encouraging local support and the use of hashtags to nominate the capital city for a $20,000 grant offered through the National Recreation and Park Association and The Walt Disney Company to improve a local park.

Working together through the Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program, more than 50 local, state, federal, nonprofit, and private sector partners are implementing projects and programs to conserve the Tahoe Basin’s environment and fix past environmental harms.
