The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Relaunch", by artist Mark Brandvik at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The exhibition will be in the gallery from October 2, 2020 – January 28, 2021.

CARSON CITY — To honor and raise funds for Nevada’s health care workers, historic Coin Press No. 1 will mint a special medallion from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St. in Carson City.

Each October, Nevadans turn their attention to the state capitol, Carson City, home of the “official” Nevada Day Parade. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

CARSON CITY — Envisioning a future that incorporates the values of indigenous people, Gov. Sisolak has proclaimed Oct. 12 Indigenous People’s Day in Nevada. The proclamation recognizes the Paiutes, Shoshone and Washoe nations as early inhabitants of the Great Basin, and it reiterates the state’s commitment to close the equity gap between indigenous people and the larger population.

Recognizing the cultural and economic impact the arts community makes in the Silver State, Gov. Steve Sisolak has proclaimed October to be Arts and Humanities Month in Nevada.

Arts and humanities strengthen the Nevada economy by generating $8.7 billion in total economic activity annually and by supporting more than 40,900 Nevada workers, according to data from the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency that works to make the arts accessible to all Nevadans. The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will open its 37th season with a virtual community music and dance project celebrating Carson City history, the “Hank Monk Schottische” virtual performance project. Instrumental musicians and dancers of all ages are invited to participate.

As part of the ongoing Nevada Humanities Exhibition Series, a new exhibition, Resiliency: A Blooming Diaspora, opens online on October 1, 2020 at nevadahumanities.org and will be on display as a virtual exhibition indefinitely. CARSON CITY — Learn about the snakes of northwestern Nevada this Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St. in Carson City. George Baumgardner, curator of natural history, will offer brief demonstrations starting at 1 p.m. and repeated until 3 p.m. for visitors passing through the museum’s demonstration gallery.

The Capital City Arts Initiative and Western Nevada College present "Ink, Paper, Print" an exhibition with work by 12 regional artists in the college’s Bristlecone Gallery, 2201 W College Parkway, Carson City.

This event was moved from Silver Saddle Ranch, and in-person attendance is sold out. However, it will be live-streamed on Facebook by A to Zen Media in Carson City. The meaning and symbolism of objects found on a traditional Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) altar will be presented from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Nevada State Museum, Carson City. Museum Curator of Education Mina Stafford will deliver the program on this uniquely Mexican holiday and how it has evolved over time. Also at the event, the museum will announce plans for this year’s Dia de Los Muertos celebration.

Nevada Humanities is pleased to announce the opening of the Nevada Humanities Major Project Grants that are part of their FY2021 Nevada Humanities Project Grants to Support Public Humanities Projects. These Major Project Grants have a public humanities project focus and will support larger-scale public humanities projects statewide that range from one month to one year to implement.

The Mile High Jazz Band Association presents a jazz-related drive-in movie, “High Society,” on Wednesday, August 19, and Thursday, August 20, as part of the 2020 Jazz & Beyond Festival.

The Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival is taking a new direction in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The festival was founded in 2004. This is the first year in which gathering of large crowds at musical events has been restricted due to health concerns.
