The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition "Impact" by artist Paula Chung at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The Initiative will host an opening reception this Friday, 5 to 6:30 p.m. The artist will give a brief talk about her work at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition will be in the gallery from Feb. 7 through May 28, 2020.

During the annual “State of the City” address Friday at Gold Dust West, Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell gave his last speech of its kind, as he is retiring at the end of this year.

The State of the City address is a way community members can be kept up to date on everything going on in our capital city, including achievements, challenges, and everything in between.

Updates included achievements such as the completion of the water pipeline from Douglas County to Carson City, the Complete Streets Project, Tesla’s grant for the Carson City School District, the first new park opening in 12 years, the opening of the Disc Golf course, and more.

Carson High School will again open its doors a little wider and longer for the 3rd Annual Back-to-School Night like no other Sept. 9. Open House, Open Hearts is a community event focused on building bridges to local services for teens and their families, increasing parent and guardian engagement at CHS, and celebrating the community, creativity, and diverse talents of Carson City.

With a windy cool down headed our way, activities around the Carson City area Wednesday, June 26 will make for a breezy good time. Looking at the day ahead there's a walk hosted by parks and recreation, kids events, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center, a free "rough cut" feature film screening at the Carson Nugget, Young Chautauquans at Dangberg Historic Park and more.

Wired Wednesday will meet at Carson Nugget, Wednesday, June 26 at 6:30 p.m. in Banquet Hall C upstairs. All ages are welcome, however this film would be potentially Rated R due to language, violence and an off camera scene that is heard but not seen.

I just returned from Orange, Virginia from a conference held at Montpelier, former US President James Madison's estate. I was chosen among applicants to attend this conference because I think our community needs to know the cool educational opportunities in which teachers are embarking. The conference covered “Gender, Sexual Identity, and the Constitution.”

The very first act of our new state legislature a couple of weeks ago was to pass S.B. 143, a bill that revived ballot Question One, passed by Nevada voters two and a half years ago but never implemented by former Governor Sandoval.

Entitlement, grandiosity, arrogance overlying insecurity, sensitivity to criticism, as well as hunger for acclaim are traits identified by Jerrold M. Post, George Washington University professor of psychiatry and political psychology.
This pattern of political narcissism is observably bipartisan as well as applicable to nearly all elected, be it local, state or at the federal level.
