Carson City's Cracker Box restaurant honored for the second year by Trip Advisor

Carson City’s Cracker Box has received the Tripadvisor.com Award of Excellence for 2014. The award recognizes restaurants that consistently receive high ratings from travelers and that rank in the top performing 10 percent of businesses worldwide. The diner also received the award in 2013.

Jerry Massad, who has owned the Cracker Box for more than 34 years, says the award is the result of his great staff.

“I’m lucky to have a great team working at the Box” he said, adding, “They are the reason we’ve been in business as long as we have. I couldn’t do it without them.”

Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor Brad Bonkowski will hold his monthly “Breakfast with Brad” on Friday, June 6, at 7:30 a.m. at the Cracker Box restaurant. All Carson City residents are invited to stop in.

The informal meeting allows local residents to offer input and ask questions about the issues facing Carson City.
The Breakfast with Brad meetings take place on the first Friday of each month. The Cracker Box is located at 402 E. William Street in Carson City.

Bonkowski will buy coffee for anyone who stops by; no food purchase is necessary.

“These morning get-togethers have been really informative, a lot of people are very passionate about certain issues. As an elected official it’s important that I get as much input as possible.”

Carson City residents are invited to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and talk about the issues they feel are most important in Carson City.

Bonkowski says it’s a good way for residents who prefer face to face meetings to have a voice.

“Not everyone likes to email or leave messages. Many people appreciate the one on one time, and I want to make sure I provide that.”

Serving hungry Carson City residents and visitors breakfast and lunch since 1980, the Cracker Box restaurant has received the coveted TripAdvisor Award of Excellence for 2013. Gourmand Golf Scramble signups underway; tourney to benefit Community Counseling Center

Signups continue for the 19th Gourmand Golf Scramble set for Sunday, June 2 at Eagle Valley West Golf Course. The tournament returns after a year hiatus and is sponsored by The Cracker Box, Café at Adele’s and Js’ Old Town Bistro. The tournament benefits the Community Counseling Center of Carson City. Breakfast and registration begin at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

The Gourmand Golf Scramble returns after a one year hiatus for its 19th tournament. The event takes place June 2, at Eagle Valley on the West Course. Bingo party tonight at Carson Middle School; more than $7,000 in prizes to be won

UPDATE: Tonight is your night, Carson City. Free admission for all, plenty of chili and refreshments and an opportunity to win some pretty impressive prizes are in store at Carson Middle School beginning at 6 p.m. during its huge Family Bingo and Chili Night party.

Dayton students take flight aboard Care Flight as part of fundraising program

Three Dayton High School students landed a birds-eye view of the sky aboard Care Flight on Saturday as part of the "Flight for a Good Cause" fundraising effort.
After a pre-flight briefing the participating students — Isabelle Villafana, Nadia Macias and Cynthia Soto — climbed aboard and soared on a Care Flight air ambulance for a first-hand look at how it functions.
The students, two juniors and a senior are enrolled in Dayton High School’s HOSA; Future Health Professionals class.
