From a ban on surprise hospital ER billing to 'red flag’ gun law, new bills take effect in Nevada
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 01/01/2020 - 12:19pmToday, Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020 is the beginning of a new year, a new decade and also a new set of laws. More than 70 laws enacted by the Nevada Legislature last year take effect either in whole or in part today.
They include several major health care initiatives — including a ban on surprise emergency room bills, a tax on vaping products and a requirement that hospitals use patients’ preferred names and pronouns — as well as laws that will benefit employees, including paid sick leave.

It was widely grown in Pennsylvania and other states in the 1700s and 1800s. Not only grown for fiber, its oil was used “in paints, ink, varnishes, and lamp oil.” Conestoga wagon covers and clothing were made from hemp.

Carson City fire crews knock down structure fire at Aloha Medicinal production plant
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 01/08/2013 - 6:43pmCarson City fire crews knocked down a fire Tuesday night that produced heavy smoke inside the fungus-based pharmaceutical company Aloha Medicinals in the 2300 block of Arrowhead Drive.
Damage was confined to a dust collection system, which caught fire when sawdust-like material ignited during a mill and grind operation, said Carson City Battalion Chief Eric Bero.
The fire was reported as an alarm at 5:35 p.m. and crews had flames knocked down 5:47p.m., with the situation reported under control at 6:36 p.m.

Nevadans will soon have a new place they can turn to learn about consumer experiences with products found harmful because of defects, and where they can file their own safety alerts, as well.
The new Consumer Product Safety Commission website, www.SaferProducts.gov is now online and taking consumer complaints - and those complaints will be searchable in a couple of weeks.
