Letter to the Editor: Lyon County's New Curriculum

I attended the Lyon County Board meeting on May 23 in Fernley. Unfortunately, there were very few parents there, mostly grandparents or concerned citizens. This has been an issue since I have been going to these meetings starting in August of 2021. Where are the parents? Are they not willing to go and find out what THEIR kids are learning?? Very sad indeed.

As a result, there is increasing interest in growing hemp in Nevada. University of Nevada, Reno Extension is now researching hemp varieties and best practices for growing it in Nevada, and offering online classes on the research findings.

Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! Around 90 participants picked up 200 pounds of trash! The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department wants to extend our thanks for the efforts of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada.

Carson City teens learn to spot signs of abuse

“I didn’t know some of those things could be red flags, like jealousy,” she said.

Introduction to classic mystery novels and films offered at TMCC

The class will examine works by crime and suspense novelists of the 1930s and 1940s and the films that were adapted from their books. Clips from some of the movies of the period will be shown.

The hikers learned about the stories behind some of Nevada’s most culturally impactful figures, such as Hank Monk, Abram Curry, and Annie H. Martin, while getting visited by a couple spirits along the way!
