Holy Tuesday, Batman! Today is jam-packed full of options around our valley. A walk with Parks and Rec, a movie viewing with the Classic Cinema Club, and life-sized board games at the Library are all on the docket for today. The big story, of course, is National Night Out with the Carson City Sheriff's Department. Free food, activities, fun, and even an aircraft or two descend on Mills Park for the annual party.

August means many things: Hot August Nights, the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, the return of football, and the last few weeks of summer vacation. The construction downtown is showing signs of advancement with the recent completion of the Bob McFadden Plaza.

Living in the dusty, dry high desert means that we escape cancerous car rot. Additionally, it’s probably the reason that Northern Nevada is a mecca for classic cars and the shows that celebrate them. The Silver Dollar Classic Car Show has long been Carson’s kick off to the hot, melty August nights that follow – the Max Casino is where it all begins. Head to Red’s Old 395 for an appreciation party to those who fight our wild fires and say a hello to Smokey the Bear. Trey Stone makes an appearance at Living the Good Life and Whiskey Tavern welcomes you to their karaoke stage.

Carson City celebrates the opening of Bob McFadden Plaza, located on Third Street between Carson and Curry Streets this Saturday, July 30 with a full schedule of events. Proceeds from the celebration will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Summer is in full blaze out there. Treat yourself to something cold at Dairy Queen; their Miracle Treat Day donates a dollar per Blizzard to the Miracle Children’s Hospitals. See what the talented kids of Strings in the Schools have been up to this summer at their free concert inside the Carson Mall. ‘Always Lost: A Meditation on War’ is an art exhibit from Western Nevada College that has travelled the country.

Happy Wednesday, Carson City. Enjoy America’s pastime tonight at the Aces Stadium and help raise money for the Carson City Library; just pick up your ticket voucher at Browser’s Corner Book Store. Casino Fandango is airing the 1968 classic, Planet of the Apes, today at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Kick off a weekend full of classic cars with Cruise Night at the Carson Mall with food trucks, kids activities, and more. Westside Pour House is the new home of the weekly ‘Geeks Who Drink’ Pub Quiz, so gather your smartest friends for a fun night of trivia, libations, and good food.

Happy Tuesday, Carson City. Today’s happenings include country line dancing at Carson Lanes and swing dance at El Charro Avita. Take a walk with Carson Parks and Recreation along the Carson River by Morgan Mill. Dinner at Firehouse Subs tonight will help raise money for the Carson City Relay for Life. Get thee to a gallery! Carson City has three art exhibits in their last week of viewing: the Spirit of America Show at the Nevada Artist Association Gallery, ‘Vantage Point of Distance’ by Dave Rowe at the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery, and ‘Always Lost: A Meditation on War’ on display in the Western Nevada College Gallery. This week will also see receptions for two of those exhibits. The Nevada Arts Council welcomes Dave Rowe on Tuesday.

Help Gina celebrate the second anniversary of Living the Good Life with CV-41 on the outdoor stage. The Carson Nugget does date night with comedy and the Cash Only Band. Grab a guitar and join in Comma Coffee’s fourth Friday Jam Session. Enjoy opening night of ‘The Red Velvet Cake War’ at the CVIC Hall in Minden; break a leg, Carson Valley Community Theater. I'm chomping at the bit for Saturday: the Taste of Downtown is almost here. It is one of my absolute favorite events, and one of the most delicious. Grab your tickets at Classy Seconds Thrift Store or the Purple Avocado. A jazz jam with Tom Stryker at Living the Good Life is a great way to soothe the soul.

I am quite fond of Tuesdays. For a weekday, they usually have some great offerings. Today's Easy Walk with the Parks and Recreation Department takes you along the Moffat Open Space on the east side of town. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada offers 'Books and Brags', essentially a story with craft time. Have a hot time with the fire-dancers of Controlled Burn: they meet at A to Zen on Tuesdays and welcome newcomers.

TUESDAY:

Have you been to a Reno Aces game yet? You may as well go tonight, help raise money for our local Boys and Girls Club, and enjoy America’s pastime. Go HERE to order tickets. Learn more about our community at the Carson City Library this evening; special guests from the Brewery Arts Center will explain what the center has to offer. If you’re looking for something family friendly, Carson Lanes won’t break the bank. Games only cost $1 per person all day long.

The weekend is moments away, Carson City. While you’re waiting, enjoy an outdoor concert with local favorite, Stereo Galaxy, at Living the Good Life. If you’ve got kids, Frozen is tonight’s choice for the Carson Library movie night. Classic car aficionados should head to Bully’s if they want to join in this week’s Silver Dollar Cruise Night.

THURSDAY:

It’s going to be a beautiful, sunshiny day in Carson City. After a couple of cool, breezy days, the temperatures are returning to the 90s. If this is a beach day, consider sticking around for the Pints and Paddles Cruise on the MS Dixie in Zephyr Cove. Head downtown for some yummy goodness; today’s Farmers Market runs from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Living the Good Life welcomes Rocky and Judith to the stage. Crossroads Lounge is the place to be for all you karaoke lovers out there.

WEDNESDAY:

The great day about three-day weekends is how quickly the next weekend appears. Thursday in Carson City offers fun stuff like live music at Living the Good Life and Sassafras, karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar, and the Silver Dollar Classic Car Cruise night. Monty Python lovers should audition for ‘Spamalot’ at the Brewery Arts Center. The Novelists make an appearance at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historical Park as part of their Twilight Concert series; you’ll want to bring a chair or blanket. Don’t miss your last chance to see the CCAI exhibit by Nancy Raven at the BRIC.

Wednesday, July 6: Things to do in Carson City
Downtown is in a for a new building; Hop and Mae Adams Foundation breaks ground at Curry and Telegraph this morning. Yummy stuff awaits at the Wednesday Farmers Market. Check out some evening fun with Geeks Who Drink Trivia at Westside Pour House. Track down some creepy crawlies with a Scorpion Hunt at Washoe Lake State Park; bring a black light if you have one.

The fireworks went off in Carson City last night without a hitch, bringing the end of another incredible weekend. Today may feel a little like a Monday, but there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself. Check out the new Spirit of America show at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Show. Our local Classic Cinema Club meets tonight and will be showing 'A Walk in the Sun' with Dana Andrews. If you feel like playing with fire, Controlled Burn meets at A to Zen to practice the right way to handle the flames.

Welcome to July, Carson City. How do you want to start out the month? For some laughs, head to Carson Comedy in the Nugget Casino or Improv Night at the Brewery Arts Center. Take the kids to Carson Hot Springs: free admission for those under 18 today. Break a leg, Wild Horse Children’s Theater. Aladdin Jr. opens tonight at the Carson City Community Center. Mills Park is home to a carnival for the long weekend, so grab yourself a funnel cake or a spin on the Ferris Wheel tonight until 10 p.m.

Happy Thursday, Carson City. You won't want to miss out on Cedrick Williams' last performance of the summer at Living the Good Life. Enjoy an outdoor concert with the Sagebrush Rebels at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park. You’ll find it located on Highway 88, just past the swimming pool in Minden, and remember to bring a chair. The Trippin King Snakes make their monthly appearance at the Carson Cigar Company for June’s Birthday Thursday. If you didn’t get your hot rod fix at the Rockabilly Riot, head to the Max Casino for Silver Dollar Cruise Night.

Need some ideas to get past the workweek hump? Some fresh fruits and veggies at the Wednesday Evening Farmers Market aren't a bad place to start. Karaoke at Crossroads Lounge is hosted by J and M Productions: they have 60,000 songs to choose from. Trivia junkies won't want to miss the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz at Westside Pour House. “So much time and so little to do. Wait a minute. Strike that. Reverse it. Thank you.” Don't miss out on seeing Gene Wilder on the big screen: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is at Galaxy Theater.

WEDNESDAY:

The Nevada Indian Commission in conjunction with the Bi-State Executive Oversight Committee launched an open open forum Tuesday to discuss the best practices for integrating traditional ecological knowledge into the management of sagebrush and pinyon-juniper ecosystems by federal land agencies.

The event is at the Stewart Indian School Gym in Carson City and runs through Thursday, June 30. Nearly 200 arrived Tuesday for the forum's first day.

Summer is moving right along. We are days away from the Fourth of July weekend: fireworks, the Downtown wine walk, a carnival at Mills Park, and Wildhorse Children’s Theater's production of Aladdin, Jr. Weekdays in Carson City aren’t shirking their duties though, as there is plenty to do today. Learn some swing dance moves at El Charro Avita or go for a walk with the Parks and Recreation Department. Singer-songwriter, Canyon White, entertains at Living the Good Life. For those with a skewed sense of humor: Mystery Science Theater 3000 makes an appearance at Galaxy Theater tonight.

If you thought that things were going to get quiet around town, I regret to inform you that there is one more incredible weekend on the horizon. The bicycles are off the hills, the rat-rods have sputtered home, but Independence Day weekend is next on the list. Rest up and start planning for fireworks. Mondays in Carson City are relatively quiet, but Ed's Doghouse is standing by with mimosa specials, Carson Lanes will let you bowl all day for $1 a game, and the Nevada Artists Association at the Brewery Art Center has a new show in the gallery that it would love you to come see.

There’s a riot at Mills Park. Don’t worry, this isn’t the kind of riot you want to avoid: the Rockabilly Riot has roared into town and offers rad cars, drag races, live music, a burlesque show and tattoo expo. Intermingled with the pompadours and pin-up girls are hundreds of law enforcement officers in town to show off their skills at the Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge. Tonight you’ll have to choose where you go for free music: the street dance at Jimmy G’s, Gold Dust West, Westside Pour House, the Fandango, Nugget, or Max Casino.

The Rockabilly Riot roars into town today and it’s bring cool cars, a tattoo expo, music, contests, pin-up girls, and so much more. Check it out at Mills Park and make sure to catch the talented officers competing in this year’s Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge while you’re there. The kids in town are getting a new Teen Center at the Boys and Girls Club: the ribbon cutting is at 10 a.m. You’ll find author Mike White at the Nevada State Museum this evening. His presentation on the best backpacking trips in Nevada and California is part of the Francis Humphrey Lecture Series.

Happy Wednesday, Carson City. A huge shout-out to the Carson City Arts and Culture Coalition: their Focus on Carson Photography Contest has concluded and the winners will be featured on a banner at Telegraph and Curry. The installation goes up at 10:30 a.m. today, and they could use a hand or two. The Wednesday Evening Farmers Market is in full swing and hits Third and Curry at 4 p.m.

Whether you celebrate taco Tuesday, Tahoe Tuesday, or just any day that the sun is shining, enjoy. Dayton kids are in for a treat at the Dayton Library with at reading of 'The Tortoise and the Hare.' The Reno Rodeo is still around, so hit up their carnival and watch the cowboys do their thing. If you can't make it to Reno, Country Line Dance at Carson Lanes will let you get a taste of what you're missing. Tonight, enjoy singer-songwriter Canyon White at Living the Good Life.
