Holy Tuesday, Batman! Today is jam-packed full of options around our valley. A walk with Parks and Rec, a movie viewing with the Classic Cinema Club, and life-sized board games at the Library are all on the docket for today. The big story, of course, is National Night Out with the Carson City Sheriff's Department. Free food, activities, fun, and even an aircraft or two descend on Mills Park for the annual party.

Living in the dusty, dry high desert means that we escape cancerous car rot. Additionally, it’s probably the reason that Northern Nevada is a mecca for classic cars and the shows that celebrate them. The Silver Dollar Classic Car Show has long been Carson’s kick off to the hot, melty August nights that follow – the Max Casino is where it all begins. Head to Red’s Old 395 for an appreciation party to those who fight our wild fires and say a hello to Smokey the Bear. Trey Stone makes an appearance at Living the Good Life and Whiskey Tavern welcomes you to their karaoke stage.

Bob McFadden Plaza to open with community splash Saturday in downtown Carson City

Carson City celebrates the opening of Bob McFadden Plaza, located on Third Street between Carson and Curry Streets this Saturday, July 30 with a full schedule of events. Proceeds from the celebration will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Westside Pour House is the new home of the weekly ‘Geeks Who Drink’ Pub Quiz, so gather your smartest friends for a fun night of trivia, libations, and good food.

Carson City has three art exhibits in their last week of viewing: the Spirit of America Show at the Nevada Artist Association Gallery, ‘Vantage Point of Distance’ by Dave Rowe at the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery, and ‘Always Lost: A Meditation on War’ on display in the Western Nevada College Gallery. This week will also see receptions for two of those exhibits. The Nevada Arts Council welcomes Dave Rowe on Tuesday.

I am quite fond of Tuesdays. For a weekday, they usually have some great offerings. Today's Easy Walk with the Parks and Recreation Department takes you along the Moffat Open Space on the east side of town. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada offers 'Books and Brags', essentially a story with craft time. Have a hot time with the fire-dancers of Controlled Burn: they meet at A to Zen on Tuesdays and welcome newcomers.

Bi-State Traditional Ecological Knowledge Summit underway at the Stewart Indian School

The Nevada Indian Commission in conjunction with the Bi-State Executive Oversight Committee launched an open open forum Tuesday to discuss the best practices for integrating traditional ecological knowledge into the management of sagebrush and pinyon-juniper ecosystems by federal land agencies.

The event is at the Stewart Indian School Gym in Carson City and runs through Thursday, June 30. Nearly 200 arrived Tuesday for the forum's first day.

We are days away from the Fourth of July weekend: fireworks, the Downtown wine walk, a carnival at Mills Park, and Wildhorse Children’s Theater's production of Aladdin, Jr. Weekdays in Carson City aren’t shirking their duties though, as there is plenty to do today. Learn some swing dance moves at El Charro Avita or go for a walk with the Parks and Recreation Department. Singer-songwriter, Canyon White, entertains at Living the Good Life. For those with a skewed sense of humor: Mystery Science Theater 3000 makes an appearance at Galaxy Theater tonight.

If you thought that things were going to get quiet around town, I regret to inform you that there is one more incredible weekend on the horizon. The bicycles are off the hills, the rat-rods have sputtered home, but Independence Day weekend is next on the list. Rest up and start planning for fireworks. Mondays in Carson City are relatively quiet, but Ed's Doghouse is standing by with mimosa specials, Carson Lanes will let you bowl all day for $1 a game, and the Nevada Artists Association at the Brewery Art Center has a new show in the gallery that it would love you to come see.

There’s a riot at Mills Park. Don’t worry, this isn’t the kind of riot you want to avoid: the Rockabilly Riot has roared into town and offers rad cars, drag races, live music, a burlesque show and tattoo expo. Intermingled with the pompadours and pin-up girls are hundreds of law enforcement officers in town to show off their skills at the Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge. Tonight you’ll have to choose where you go for free music: the street dance at Jimmy G’s, Gold Dust West, Westside Pour House, the Fandango, Nugget, or Max Casino.

The Rockabilly Riot roars into town today and it’s bring cool cars, a tattoo expo, music, contests, pin-up girls, and so much more. Check it out at Mills Park and make sure to catch the talented officers competing in this year’s Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge while you’re there. The kids in town are getting a new Teen Center at the Boys and Girls Club: the ribbon cutting is at 10 a.m. You’ll find author Mike White at the Nevada State Museum this evening. His presentation on the best backpacking trips in Nevada and California is part of the Francis Humphrey Lecture Series.

A huge shout-out to the Carson City Arts and Culture Coalition: their Focus on Carson Photography Contest has concluded and the winners will be featured on a banner at Telegraph and Curry. The installation goes up at 10:30 a.m. today, and they could use a hand or two. The Wednesday Evening Farmers Market is in full swing and hits Third and Curry at 4 p.m.
