Senator Square: Carson High celebrates Governor Sandoval's 'Week of Respect' proclamation

Even though homecoming has now concluded, Carson High School is by no means finished with its current and upcoming events. Not only is the CHS National Honor Society Blood Drive coming up, Oct. 6 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the small gym, but Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval proclaimed Oct. 3-7 to be the “Week of Respect” throughout the state of Nevada.

Wine walk weekend is almost upon us, along with the infamous Virginia City Outhouse Races. Start your day at Dutch Bros. Coffee and one dollar from every drink will find its way to the Boys and Girls Club. Today is the last day to view the Capital City Arts Initiative exhibit, ‘New Crop 2016’ on the second floor of the Courthouse, so head over there before it’s gone. Check out some new art at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint: Kim VanZyll and Her Zentangle Protégés will be there for an opening reception.

Street Vibes and the Candy Dance are always the endcap to September. Arts and crafts take over the small hamlet of Genoa this weekend; get a jump on your holiday gift list. All the other corners of Northern Nevada are a playground for the thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts here to enjoy the bike rally. Battle Born Harley on Research Way offers a huge party without ever leaving the valley. Those two events are hardly all that Carson City and our neighboring counties have to offer, however. U.S. Senator Dean Heller will be hosting the Annual Chili Feed at the Carson Nugget in Carson City for a second time, during the Nevada Day Parade.

The Annual Chili Feed, featuring the Carson Nugget’s famous chili, began in 1982 and has become a Nevada Day Tradition. It was hosted by Former, US Senator Richard Bryan for the first 19 years and was then passed on to Former, Lieutenant Governor, Brian Krolicki before Heller took over last year.

Celebrating all things community and the first responders who keep its residents safe, this weekend marks the 28th Dayton Valley Days celebration.

The annual two-day festival is the largest event of the year and draws thousands of visitors and community members to the historic district. Dayton Valley Days helps raise funds for continued restoration of the historic schoolhouse–turned community center and local nonprofit organizations.

Region's first responders to be honored during Dayton Valley Days

First responders who serve the greater Dayton area are being honored during the annual Dayton Valley Days 2016 street festival.

Early this year the Dayton Valley Days Committee unanimously voted to dedicate the festival scheduled September 17-18, 2016 in Old Town Dayton to the region's first responders as a way to thank each of them and let them know that in these turbulent times the communities they serve is behind them.
