Even though homecoming has now concluded, Carson High School is by no means finished with its current and upcoming events. Not only is the CHS National Honor Society Blood Drive coming up, Oct. 6 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the small gym, but Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval proclaimed Oct. 3-7 to be the “Week of Respect” throughout the state of Nevada.

Wine walk weekend is almost upon us, along with the infamous Virginia City Outhouse Races. Start your day at Dutch Bros. Coffee and one dollar from every drink will find its way to the Boys and Girls Club. Today is the last day to view the Capital City Arts Initiative exhibit, ‘New Crop 2016’ on the second floor of the Courthouse, so head over there before it’s gone. Check out some new art at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint: Kim VanZyll and Her Zentangle Protégés will be there for an opening reception.

Street Vibes and the Candy Dance are always the endcap to September. Arts and crafts take over the small hamlet of Genoa this weekend; get a jump on your holiday gift list. All the other corners of Northern Nevada are a playground for the thousands of motorcycle riders and enthusiasts here to enjoy the bike rally. Battle Born Harley on Research Way offers a huge party without ever leaving the valley. Those two events are hardly all that Carson City and our neighboring counties have to offer, however. SATURDAY:

Autumn is blowing in, but don’t let that keep you indoors. Community Art Night returns to Telegraph Square with artists, live music, food trucks, and more. Learn what our local candidates think at the Carson City Arts and Cultural Coalition’s Candidate Forum in the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall. Carson City is looking for public input on the upcoming development along South Carson St., so head to Fuji Park to make your voice heard. Fun times can be found at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; it’s karaoke night.

U.S. Senator Dean Heller will be hosting the Annual Chili Feed at the Carson Nugget in Carson City for a second time, during the Nevada Day Parade.

The Annual Chili Feed, featuring the Carson Nugget’s famous chili, began in 1982 and has become a Nevada Day Tradition. It was hosted by Former, US Senator Richard Bryan for the first 19 years and was then passed on to Former, Lieutenant Governor, Brian Krolicki before Heller took over last year.

Battle Born Harley Davidson takes motorcycles, leather and the roaring thunder to the street during the Street Vibrations Event, this Wednesday through Sunday: Sept. 21 through 25.

Historic Dayton is the place to be. The Annual Dayton Valley Days and Railroad Days features a chili cook-off, pet parade, pinewood derby race, and much more. Join CASI at Riverview Park for the annual 5K9 walk/run and don’t forget to bring your pooch. The Edible Pedal is one of the most delicious bike rides around with 100, 50, or 10 mile courses. Dayton Valley Days is an event that happens every year in the small town of Dayton, Nev. Locals come out to the event to see different vendor booths, have barbecue and chili cook offs, and get to enjoy some cool classic cars that attend the Dayton Valley Days Car Show "Show N' Shines."

Whoa doggy, what a weekend. Dayton Valley Days, the Steampunk Ball and Parade in Virginia City, and the Western Heritage Festival at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park are just the tip of the iceberg. Celebrating all things community and the first responders who keep its residents safe, this weekend marks the 28th Dayton Valley Days celebration.

The annual two-day festival is the largest event of the year and draws thousands of visitors and community members to the historic district. Dayton Valley Days helps raise funds for continued restoration of the historic schoolhouse–turned community center and local nonprofit organizations.

Get ready, the weekend is almost here and it brings with it the Way it Was Rodeo and Steampunk Ball to Virginia City, the Air Races to Reno, and the annual Edible Pedal bike ride through Washoe Valley. Before the weekend carries you away, enjoy our beautiful valley. Take in the views with Muscle Powered as they hike along Conestoga. Relax on the Veranda at Adele's and enjoy the music stylings of Linda Arnn Arteno. The art scene downtown gets a boost with Kathleen Heiner Stemler's boutique show at the Champagne Beauty Bar and a reception for artist Pam Black down the block at Artsy Fartsy.

The fifth annual Fall Festival and Chili Cook Off will be on Saturday, September 17th, at the Recreation Complex in South Lake Tahoe.The event will open at 10:00 a.m. and run until 4:00 p.m. The Chili Tasting will be from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Admission to the event itself is free and will offer a free drawing prize ticket to attendees.

The Carson City Democratic Women’s Club and the Carson City Democratic Central Committee extends an invitation for all to attend its annual Fall candidates picnic on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mills Park Pavilion B and C. The Pavilions are located at the east end of Mills Park, accessible from Saliman Road.

This is an opportunity for you to hear from state and federal candidates, learn about local and state ballot issues and mingle with elected officials.

Early this year the Dayton Valley Days Committee unanimously voted to dedicate the festival scheduled September 17-18, 2016 in Old Town Dayton to the region's first responders as a way to thank each of them and let them know that in these turbulent times the communities they serve is behind them.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of July 11-17, 2016. Beginning Sunday overnight lane closures will take place on South Carson Street south of Fairview Drive as the Nevada Department of Transportation begins a project to resurface and improve the road.
