Ceremonies, holiday craft fairs and more: Carson City region set for Veterans Day weekend

Heading into the Veterans Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days. Events include live comedy, art and heater, multiple holiday craft fairs around Carson City and Carson Valley as well as several Veterans Day ceremonies and offers of gratitude to vets and active duty members of the U.S. military on Monday. Nevada Commission for Women unveils historic license plate honoring 100 years of women's suffrage

The Nevada Commission for Women unveiled a limited edition license plate celebrating women’s suffrage as a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote.

The plate itself is historic to Nevada, as it was the first assembly bill, Assembly Bill 499, to be backed by only women. Bills need a majority vote to pass any legislation, and this session was the first session any state in the country saw a legislature with a female-led majority.

Carson High Holiday Craft Fair and Canned Food Drive set for Nov. 22

The Carson High Holiday Craft Fair will be held at the Carson High School Friday November 22nd from 5-8pm and Saturday November 23rd from 9-4pm. Admission on Friday is $2.00 and Saturday is $1.50 or $1.00 with a canned food item. All canned food items will be donated to Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Carson City student art exhibit to be featured at 13th annual Dia De Los Muertos event

CARSON CITY — The Nevada State Museum will host a Day of the Dead Celebration this weekend from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2. As part of the event and celebration, Carson High School ceramics students from Ms. Alisa Kuniya’s class and third graders from Bordewich Bray Elementary School will exhibit Dia De Los Muertos masks and alters.

Carson High School cheerleaders cheered as they entered Walmart in Carson City and then performed two more cheers on top of that. There is an old saying found in a very old book which says, “You have not because you ask not.”
