Tuesday, Sept. 12: Things to do in Carson City

I strive to make sure that my things-to-do lists reflect the many options available to you. Today, for example, you’ll find a fundraiser for Catmandu, the monthly meeting of the fly fishing club, some country line dancing, jazz and poetry, and a walk along the historic Blue Line Trail. No two Tuesdays are alike (or Wednesdays or Thursdays, for that matter), so it’s always worth checking out. Now that we are moving into autumn, the activities in Carson City change like the leaves.
New vice principals named at Carson City schools

Muscle Powered Evening Conditioning Hikes Program: Evening hikes of 4-6 miles in length with an elevation gain, sometimes over 500 feet and usually on single track trail. The evening hike will usually be 1½ hour duration or more.
Care Flight called after bicycle accident at Kings Canyon

Carson City Pedal Library provides books during summer school

Now through the end of June, the teardrop trailer pulled behind a bike will provide up to 60 pounds of books available at each school within the Carson City School District. The mobile library will also offer mobile wifi and charging station soon.
Mile High Summer Jazz Camp prepares June 7-13 run in Carson City

Celebrate with some fresh produce from the first-of-the-season Sierra Chef Farmers Market in Gardnerville’s Lampe Park. ‘Explore Summer Programs’ at the Carson City Library will introduce you to some options for your kids during the long break. Muscle Powered invites you to participate in their ‘Ride of Silence’ to bring awareness to the importance of sharing the road; meet at Telegraph Square at 7 p.m., and don’t forget your helmet.
Partnership Carson City course teaches mental health first aid

Hannah McDonald, who coordinated the presentation as the training specialist for Partnership Carson City, said 120 students responded.

Genoa’s Cowboy Festival takes over the tiny town with music, poetry, artisans, food, and fun and the Comstock hills will roar to life with motorbikes during the annual Virginia City Grand Prix. While you’re waiting, enjoy a jaunt with Muscle Powered along the Carson River or take an Easy Walk to the Pioneer Cemetery. Tonight, songstress Canyon White will take the stage at Living the Good Life.

Students, K-12 and University, will enjoy the free swim day at the Carson Hot Springs. The Carson Nugget is turning into quite the downtown hotspot with a different headlining comedian each Friday, in addition to live music in two places. Check out their newest offering, the Beer Bar, during tonight's grand opening. So much more awaits you today, you'll just have to see what strikes your fancy.

Emergency crews called to rollover crash in upper Kings Canyon

Two were taken by Care Flight with non-life threatening injuries and one, also with non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to the hospital.

UPDATE 9:50PM: Care Flight, which landed near the rollover accident in upper Kings Canyon, has made contact with three people, according to dispatch. The RAVEN helicopter dispatched from Washoe County has been canceled.

Brian Sandoval presides over a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at 9 a.m., and even more is in store at the Legislature, including a BBQ. It’s also Nevada Moves Day, which means you’ll see a lot of school age walkers and bicyclists on the sidewalks. Reward your family with a movie at the Library tonight: The BFG is fun for all ages. Learn more about our little lake to the north with a presentation at the Washoe Lake State Park Ranger Office.

Senator Square: There’s always next year

All schools were given the same case construct and asked to create their own take on it, presenting it as an attorney and a witness would in a real court case.

King Street. The afternoon session, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., is for student jazz musicians. The evening session, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., is for advanced through professional level musicians.

Take advantage of the dry weather by joining in on the Parks and Recreation Easy Walk in John Mankins Park in Silver Oak. It’s a Jazz Extravaganza at the Community Center tonight. Mile High Jazz Band has teamed up with the Carson High and Carson Middle School jazz bands for their annual concert. The monthly fundraiser at Firehouse Subs makes raising money for Relay for Life as easy as ordering dinner.

Carson Online education program helps Carson City students graduate

It has become a very successful online credit option for students that has helped change culture, provide technological support and has contributed to raising the graduation rate in the district.
