Senator Square: Solutions classes through CHS offer extra help to all students

The grant money provides out-of-school-time supports for at-risk students. At risk, a broad term in this grant, includes students who are at risk of not passing a class, at risk of becoming truant, or just in need of a safe-place after school.
News reports person taken into custody in Carson City
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sat, 01/19/2019 - 11:55pmUPDATE 1:02AM: Multiple news sources, including South Tahoe Now and KOLO TV Channel 8 News Now, are now reporting that a person in connection with the investigation into a double homicide in South Reno is in custody, Washoe County Sheriff's spokesman Bob Harmon reportedly told the sources.
It was reported earlier that a connection had not yet been made with the information at hand.

Law enforcement agencies close left north, southbound lanes of Interstate 580 in Washoe Valley
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 01/18/2019 - 1:02pmUPDATE: According to the Washoe County Sheriff Public Information Officer Bob Harmon, units are doing a search through Washoe Valley in an attempt to find evidence related to the La Guardia murders, but they are not following any specific leads.
“We have Search and Rescue volunteers and Washoe County Sheriff K-9 units that are searching through Washoe Valley right now,” said Harmon. “The search is related to the La Guardia investigation but there’s no specific lead they’re following. We’re doing the search just so we can leave no stone unturned, and to cover all the bases.”

Traffic in both directions on Interstate 580 through Washoe Valley, between the Bellevue overpass and Carson City, has been slowed to a crawl Friday afternoon after Nevada Highway Patrol and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office closed left lanes in both directions while Search and Rescue members worked in the center median of the freeway running through Washoe Valley.

Elderly couple dead in double homicide, investigators say similarities to Douglas murders
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Thu, 01/17/2019 - 5:36pmUPDATE: 1/18/19 at 3:15PM: According to a story in the Reno Gazette Journal today, the elderly couple found dead in their South Reno home Wednesday have been identified by friends as Jerry and Sherri David. Jerry David was a former president of the Reno Rodeo Association.
The identities of the elderly couple still have not been released by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, which is leading the investigation into their deaths that have been ruled homicides.

An elderly man and woman died as a result of homicide at their south Reno residence after their bodies were discovered Wednesday, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office confirmed during a press conference.
