Are you ready for this? New Year’s weekend is upon us and brings with it hope and optimism for the New Year. Resolutions are made, parties are planned, and the kids are smack dab in the middle of their winter break. The chilly weather makes it a perfect time to bake cookies, catch up on the Carson City Library’s Winter Read-a-thon, or hit the shops with those holiday gift cards.

Celebrate New Years with CASI bingo. That's right CASI will be hosting bingo at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverley Drive on New Years day! Bring your friends and family for a fun and exciting afternoon of bingo. In addition to the prize money given to the winners of the games there will be raffle prizes and a 50/50 drawing too. Doors will open at 11:30 AM and the first game will start at 12:30. Buy-in is $10 and extra packets are $5. All other games are $1. The snack bar will be open offering hot dogs, chips and candy. Sometimes the wonderful CASI volunteers will bring soup.

Share the love this holiday season by making a food or supply contribution at a food drive on Friday, Dec. 23 to help support the Carson City Meals on Wheels program.

In just two short weeks it will be Christmas Eve. Treat the kids to some quality time with Family Day at A to Zen or at the final performance of ‘Elf Jr. – The Musical.’ Let the Carson City Symphony get you in the spirit of the season at the 33rd Annual Holiday Treat Concert in the Community Center. Bring an unwrapped toy and you’ll get in for free to the Carson Victory Rollers’ annual ‘Season’s Beatings Red and Green Scrimmage.’ Keep reading for some great ways to spend the day.

Brace yourself, Carson City. We could be in for some wet and windy weather this weekend. The more adventurous of you will be participating in the Be Bold, Run in the Cold ‘Run with Rudolph’ 5/10K near Western Nevada College. If you’d rather be indoors, the Carson Mall is hosting a Holiday Craft Fair, and at noon will celebrate the grand opening of Ogres-Holm Pottery. Celebrate a Country Christmas with Mary Kaye and the Kaye Sisters in Genoa or get your Celtic fix at the Brewery Art Center with a performance by County Clarke. Don’t think that Sundays are just for rest, there is plenty to coax you out of your pajamas today. Take a trip with Santa at the Nevada Railroad Museum. The Carson City Raiders Booster Club is partnering again with The Carson City Senior Center by adopting 20 home-bound seniors and making their Christmas wishes come true.
The local community helps us with our cause by donating items for our annual (17 years) Christmas Commitment.
This year our event will be held on Sunday November 27 from 12:30pm - 4:30pm, at the Eleventh Frame Lounge @ Carson Lanes, 4600 Snyder Ave in Carson City.

Start the day making something beautiful. The Muscle Powered Trash Mob descends upon our new downtown for some clean-up and coffee. Kids will enjoy the Tales and Wags program at the Library where they get to read to therapy dogs and acquire a new book in the process. It’s a Carson/Douglas Army/Navy rivalry as the JROTC programs hit the field at Carson High for a game of flag football. Keep reading and you’re sure to find something that sounds fun.

Other than that, the weekend is kind of quiet, but you'll want take a look at the list and see what catches your fancy.

There is an excellent chance that your devices have already fallen back one hour, but not everything is digitally connected. Daylight savings time is done for the year, and hopefully you’ve enjoyed your extra hour of sleep. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

Street Vibes and the Candy Dance are always the endcap to September. Arts and crafts take over the small hamlet of Genoa this weekend; get a jump on your holiday gift list. Two were arrested Saturday on suspicion of felony drug charges after a traffic stop and canine assisted search recovered a mint can that contained methamphetamine and evidence to suggest a drug sale, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

One last chance awaits to enjoy the Reno Balloon Races or Virginia City’s annual Camel Races, so don’t miss out. A remembrance ceremony will take place at the World Trade Center I-Beam Memorial in Mills Park to honor those lost fifteen years ago. Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space in cooperation with Carson City Senior Center present the Rockin’ 50’s Family Dance! Come dance the night away to awesome hits from the 1950’s Saturday, September 10th from 4pm to 6pm at the Carson City Community Center Gym. Tickets are $20 per couple and $5 for an additional person. Tickets are available at the MAC and the Aquatics Facility. Contact 887-2290 for more information. Proceeds go to help support Meals on Wheels and CCRD Youth Program.

Grab your cape, mask, and special side-kick and head to Tumbleweeds Gymnastics in Minden for their Superhero 5/10K. Hunt for underwater treasure at Sand Harbor with the High Desert Divers, all divers and snorkelers are invited. The Ferrari Hill Climb continues today in Virginia City if you feel the need for speed. Galaxy Theater brings another movie classic to the big screen today. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘The King and I’ 60th Anniversary Event plays at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
