March 13, 2015 - 6:30pm The Mike Thomas Lecture Series presents The Future of Earth on Friday, March 13 at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Plaza Hotel and Event Center at 801 S. Carson St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 and includes appetizers and a no host bar.
The Future of Earth is a highly speculative topic examining the possible scenarios that could spell out the end of our planet. This is a fascinating, and perhaps chilling, presentation.

January 14, 2015 - 2:00pm The 16th Annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson City Plaza Hotel and Event Center will be held, appropriately Valentine's Day, Saturday, Feb. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased in advance for $15 at the front desk of the Plaza Hotel or $18 at the door. The event is hosted by the American Association of University Women, which empowers women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. Money raised will go to scholarships.

The annual Father's Day Powwow at Stewart Indian School draws a number of quality American Indian arts and crafts vendors, and is also a time for alumni, former employees and their families and friends to gather at the former campus at 5500 Snyder Avenue in Carson City.

The 14th Annual Feast of Chocolate will be Saturday Feb. 9, 12 – 3 p.m. This all-you-can-eat full buffet of chocolate treats is presented by the American Association of University Women, Capital Branch. Proceeds of the event benefit local scholarships and the AAUW Educational Opportunities Fund.

Carson City Community rallies to help one of its own

After spending decades helping so many here in Carson City, Vikki Hopkins finds herself on the receiving end of that help today.
In September 2010 she was diagnosed with an advanced form of lung cancer. Upon hearing about it, her co-workers started spreading the word about her struggle. Almost immediately a movement began to help Vikki and her family with this struggle. The response was immediate and overwhelming.

A job fair to fill 130 positions at the Carson City Kohl's store continues through Thursday at the Carson City Plaza Hotel Conference Room.
Applicants can go to the job fair today, which runs through 7 tonight, or can apply online at www.kohlscareers.com, or call (877) 639-5645. The store will be at the former Mervyn’s building on South Carson Street between Koontz and Eagle Station lanes, and is set to open in September.
