Good day Carson City and welcome to Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2019. We're looking at partly sunny skies today with a high of 41, followed by gusty winds and the chance of rain and snow overnight into Wednesday, lasting through at least Thursday.

Good day Carson City. It is Friday, Jan. 18, 2019. Heading into the weekend it looks like the heavy stuff is out of the way weather wise. Today we'll see a slight chance of rain and snow after 10 a.m. with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 46. Saturday we are looking at partly sunny skies and a high in the low 50s.

Good morning Carson City and welcome to Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019. There's a slight chance of snow before 10 a.m., then a chance of rain and snow later this afternoon. Expect mostly cloudy skies with a high near 43.

In January 2013, 19-year-old Desiree Bragg and her boyfriend were on their way home when Leo Cardoza followed them from the Carson City freeway to her mother’s front door.

What happened next is debated, but the end result cannot be argued: Desiree Bragg, as she attempted to exit her car and get into her mother’s house, was crushed against the garage door by Cardoza’s car, and killed.

UPDATE: Portions of I-580 in Carson City were closed briefly while investigators looked for evidence. The freeway was re-opened shortly before midnight.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a vehicle that was reportedly shot at late Tuesday night on the I-580 freeway near College Parkway, injuring a passenger inside.

Today there's day and evening organized hiking activities hosted by Muscle Powered, a fascinating lecture about the Nevada State Children's Home; Diabetes Awareness Month activities offered through Carson Tahoe Health, art showings and more.

Overnight lane closures will be in place next week at the Interstate 580 Carson City Freeway and U.S. 395/South Carson Street intersection as roadway striping is enhanced.

If the work week flew by for you, then you will want to be sure to catch some of the events occurring in our area before the weekend passes you by. It's already Saturday, Sept. 15, so don't waste any more time.

We'll be doing the newest section of the Carson City Freeway Multi-Use Path south of Highway 50 and north of Fifth Street.

Specifics: Meet at the south end of N. Lompa Lane at the corner of W. Modoc Court.

Closed-toed shoes or boots required. Long pants, long-sleeved shirts, hats, sunscreen and water are recommended to bring. Muscle Powered will provide gloves, pick-up sticks, and bags.

As new residential construction projects continue moving forward in Carson City, the transportation network around the Nevada state capital is keeping pace with growth that has occurred and is projected to occur, said Carson City Transportation Manager Lucia Maloney.

I know we were expecting yesterday to be cold, but that was downright bitter. More of the same can be expected, with a possibility of snow tomorrow. Luckily, you’ll find plenty of things to enjoy indoors. If you have a talent to show off, don’t miss the last live audition for the upcoming ‘Carson’s Got Talent.’ If you can’t make it, submit your audition online HERE.

There is absolutely a little bit of everything this weekend. There’s somewhere to volunteer, somewhere to eat some fundraising pancakes, join in an Asian New Year Lion Dance Parade, Beer Crawl in downtown Carson City, and get your Zumba on. I think the eclectic mix of happenings is one of my favorite things about our corner of the world. Whether it’s the International Film Festival, the Vagina Monologues, or telescope viewing at the WNC Observatory: you can’t tell me there is nothing to do.

Head to the Fox Brewpub for their ‘Taco ‘bout it’ Fundraiser for Advocates to End Domestic Violence: a portion of taco sales today will benefit the organization. Learn about Nevada silver screen icons like Marilyn Monroe, aliens, and the King of Rock and Roll during a CCAI Nevada Neighbors presentation by long-time film reviewer, Robin Holabird. Sierra Nevada Forums brings experts from various backgrounds to shed light on difficult and complex topics facing our society.

The long-awaited, much-anticipated 800 pound metal eagle sculpture has finally found its permanent home Thursday on the south end of the Carson City freeway.

Black Friday, small business Saturday, cyber Monday: I didn’t name these, but I can truly get behind Day of Giving Tuesday. Carson City is home to several great charities and non-profits that could use your financial love. Throw a few dollars at your favorite one if you’re able. It’s not warm outside, but a brisk hike will warm you up. Muscle Powered shows off one of Carson City’s great trails every Tuesday afternoon. If you’d rather exercise your brain, DJ Trivia at the Fox Brewpub or the Geeks who Drink Pub Quiz at Sassafras are a great mix of friends and friendly competition.
