Also available will be 17 important resource companies to provide needed assistance on how to obtain training and assistance in seeking the right job.

Carson City downtown bicycle rack sponsorships now available
Submitted by editor on Fri, 01/29/2016 - 5:38pmCarson City is not yet listed on Bicycle Magazine’s list of top 50 bicycle friendly cities, but could earn this distinction in the future when the reinvention of our downtown is complete in late fall this year.
Our downtown streets are being narrowed and a bike lane added so current and future bicyclists may feel safer as they pedal through our downtown to connect to our many bicycle trails.

Metal benches and bicycle racks to be placed strategically along Carson and Curry Streets are available for purchase by businesses, those who wish to remember or honor a loved one or family, or simply to put a family name on the bench.

A new community practice group is starting up at A to Zen and everyone is welcome to come learn what it takes to dance with fire. The Carson City Classical Cinema Club is growing and has moved its monthly movie viewings to the Black Box Theater at the Brewery Arts Center. If you aren’t a member yet, it is just five dollars to enjoy Prince and the Pauper tonight.
Carson City wins tourism grants for mountain bike promotion, art walk, MAC and powwow
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 12/10/2015 - 2:06pmWith the Epic Rides Off-Road Series mountain biking race set for this summer, the Carson City Visitors Bureau can pump up the fat tire frenzy along with its promotion thanks in part to a $4,000 grant, among 65 approved for funding from the state’s rural tourism program, Nevada Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison announced Wednesday.
The lights are on: downtown Carson City is ready for the holidays

The annual event co-sponsored by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce and the Redevelopment Committee brought young and old downtown to watch the Capitol light up.
A Christmas Fair in Telegraph Square featured entertainment by the Carson Middle School Band, the Carson High Chamber Choir, and the Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers. Craft booths for the kids, vendors, and a roaming Grinch were all a part of the action. Santa’s appearance was the icing on the cake.

As part of the 26th Annual Silver & Snowflakes Festival of Lights to be held Friday, Dec. 4, children of all ages enrolled in any of Carson City’s schools — whether public or private — are encouraged to submit original drawings to win cash prizes and to be featured on the cover of the Silver & Snowflakes special edition published by the Nevada Appeal. Winning art will be on display at the library until after the new year.

Nevada Day is something special here in the capital city: the parade, beard contest, fam fest, and so much more. Go here for the official Nevada Day website and here for a schedule of events, courtesy of the Carson City Chamber of Commerce. Parade day falls on Oct. 31 this year, and when that happens, trick or treating in Carson City gets bumped up a day to Friday. If you can’t wait that long to wear your costume, head to Carson Lanes for their Halloween Line Dance Party.

Nevada Health Centers, Carson City School District open new school-based health facility

To facilitate the opening, there were be a ribbon cutting celebration Thursday with the Carson City Chamber of Commerce and officials from the Carson City School District and Nevada Health Centers Tours and refreshments will be provided. The event begins at 8:30 a.m. This center is located at 618 W. Musser Street.
Carson City Visitors Bureau announces business alliance

“The businesses in our community play a vital role in creating a memorable experience for the more than 700,000 visitors who come to the capital each year,” said Joel Dunn, executive director of the visitors bureau. “In turn, those visitors play a crucial role in the success our business — driving more than 30 percent of taxable sales.”
He said the new alliance will connect the two.

Or does it run between Baker and Carson City? Depends on where you begin, I suppose.
Carson City Chamber Footgolf Tournament raises $1,500 for Carson High culinary team

Shown left is Terrie McNutt, General Manager of Silver Oak and Mayor Robert Crowell along with CHS Culinary teacher Penny Reynolds and her team of students. 100 percent of monies raised in the tournament went to the culinary program.

Sure, you can go to a gym (what did we do before gyms?) or you can participate in one of the best exercise routines of all — walking. Walking is easy on the body and allows one to stop and view the scenery, or as they say, “smell the roses.”
Navy sailors to perform volunteer services in Carson City
Submitted by editor on Thu, 10/01/2015 - 2:59pmFifteen sailors from Carrier Air Wing Three of Virginia Beach, VA will be in Carson City on Saturday, Oct. 3 and Saturday, Oct. 10 to perform volunteer work at some of our most historic sites.
The sailors will be training at Fallon Naval Air Station and when in any community perform volunteer duties to “leave each place we visit in better condition,” according to Lt. Robert D Fasnacht, group leader.

The main, special event is the Count Basie 111th Birthday Bash, 8 to 10 p.m., on the Third Street Stage between Carson and Curry Streets in Carson City.
The Music Festival began in 2004 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of William "Count" Basie, Aug. 21, 1904-April 26, 1984.
