Courthouse Gallery in Carson City, St. Mary's in Virginia City make list of must-see Nevada art stops
Submitted by editor on Thu, 12/18/2014 - 9:10amCapital City Arts Initiative Courthouse Gallery in Carson City and St. Mary's Art and Retreat Center in Virginia City are among 10 "unmissable" Nevada spots for art lovers, according to the website TheCultureTrip.com.
In announcing its list the website notes Nevada is dotted with many places for art lovers to explore, including traditional galleries to more unique spaces. From Reno to Elko the state boasts a wide range of art from a host of talented individuals, including locals and international artists.
Capital City Arts Initiative Awarded National Endowment for the Arts Grant
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 12/09/2014 - 5:16pmNational Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu announced Tuesday that the Capital City Arts Initiative is one of 919 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant.
CCAI is recommended for a $10,000 grant to support an exhibition by artist Katie Lewis in the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. Ms. Lewis’ show will open in September 2015.
BRIC Art 5

NAC Arts Learning, Project and Partners in Excellence grants for fiscal year 2015 went to non-profit organizations and public institutions in 10 Nevada counties. Grants were awarded at the board meeting in May. Review panels convened in public meetings to evaluate the grant applications and recommend funding amounts for the board to consider.

CCAI Books and Writers Series: Indelicate Angels featured April 8

The writing workshop will take place Tuesday, April 8 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The reading follows immediately at 5:30 p.m.
The free events are part of CCAI’s Books and Writers series co-sponsored with the Carson City Library. CCAI and the Library enthusiastically invite all readers and writers to attend the workshop and reading.

Nevada Arts Council brings arts visioning to Carson community

The Arts Council is launching a series of local arts town meetings to engage in conversations with Nevadans. Staff plans to explore the cultural needs of large and small communities, the role of the arts in the Silver State and to evaluate NAC’s role as a state agency.

A Walk Down the Fall Art Walk Lane
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 10/31/2013 - 7:43amAt 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning a group of well bundled people met in downtown Carson City for the Fall Art Walk. If you missed the walk or forgot to take notes, here is a brief recap.
1) Comma Coffee – The “Backseat Gallery” in the back was featuring art by Barry Mitchell. It was a great opportunity to get a hot coffee too.
2) Legislative Grounds – A viewing of the statues of Kit Carson and Abraham Curry and the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial along the beautiful ground of the Nevada State Legislature.

Presentation: Why German Art Matters

Carson City Board of Supervisors to allocate funds for special events

There are requests for $118,275, so the supervisors will have to pick which groups will not get what they asked for at the board's next meeting on April 5 at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room at the Carson City Community Center.

Celebration of Arts on Sunday to launch Nevada governor inauguration of Brian Sandoval
Submitted by editor on Thu, 12/30/2010 - 8:06amThe inauguration of Nevada's 29th governor, Brian Sandoval, will begin on Sunday with a celebration of arts in Carson City and then continue on Monday with the official ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on the steps of the state capitol.
Beginning on Sunday, Jan. 2, from 1 to 5 p.m., cultural organizations in downtown Carson City will open their doors to offer free music and dance performances, demonstrations by traditional artists, visual arts and history exhibitions, children’s activities and shopping opportunities.
