CARSON CITY — The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in partnership with Sierra Nevada Forums, AAUW Capital (NV) Branch, and the Brewery Arts Center, will present a series of election forums on Oct. 7, 10, 11 and 17 beginning at 6 pm each night at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St in Carson City. Doors open at 5:30 pm. The forums are co-sponsored by the Nevada Appeal.

This in reply to Mr. James O. Hartman’s letter to the editor in the May 21st issue of the RC. Mr. Hartman, I will address you in the first person in this reply. Facts are stubborn things.

Let me be clear that I draw a parallel to your reporting in the RC opinion page with what in the 30’s was called yellow journalism. Use of the journalism in the same sentence with your name does a disservice to journalists everywhere even those in the mainstream.

After a quick general meeting, the last of the pre-primary Candidate Forums will be held April 24, 6:30 p.m. at Silver State Charter High School, 788 Fairview Drive in Carson City. This month's forum will consist of:

CC #1 -- The Same Old Point Of View

A previous letter (by Janice Ayers) has presented no new arguments FOR the KDC project, and failed to address the arguments made by people such as I and others who are against it. Instead, she engages in a childish ad hominem attack. That is exactly what I got in response to my first letter on this topic.

Chamber hosts candidate forum for Carson City Supervisor races

Local politics gets into full swing when the Carson City Chamber of Commerce will host its Soup's On Supervisor Candidate Forum on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Featured at the luncheon will be the contestants for the Carson City Supervisor Ward 2 race, Brad Bonkowski and Dennis Johnson and Ward 4 contestants incumbent Molly Walt and Jim Shirk. Questions will be fielded from the audience.

Carson City candidate and ballot question forums next week

Two candidate forums will take place in Carson City next week. Hosted by the League of Women Voters, the first is at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the Carson City Community Center. The topics are Question 1, the proposed City Center project for downtown Carson City. Following the pros and cons discussion of Question 1 there will be a Board of Supervisors candidate presentation for the two seats.

Carson City school trustee candidates prepare for Monday Chamber forum

Candidates for Carson City School Trustee in Districts 1 and 6 will assemble in Senator Square at Carson High School, at 6 p.m. Monday, May 3 to discuss their views on the issues facing the school district. The public is invited.

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce is presenting the third in its series of Primary Candidate Forums.

“We’ve never presented a forum for the school trustees, but because there were so many qualified and interested candidates this year, we were asked to present the trustees to the public in an open forum,” said Chairman Jim Smolenski.

Candidate forums for Carson City seats set for April 12 and April 15

Important decisions lie ahead with voters in the upcoming elections for several Carson City elected offices.

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce will hold two primary candidates forums April 12 and April 15, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Carson Nugget, 507 North Carson Street. The event is free and open to the public. WNC Professor Robert Morin will serve as moderator and ask each candidate a series of three questions. The audience will have the opportunity to weigh in.

Primary candidates forums will be held on Monday, April 12, and Thursday, April 15, beginning at 6 p.m at the Carson Nugget, 507 North Carson Street in Carson City.

The Carson City Chamber of Commerce will hold two primary candidate forums centering on candidates for local office. The forums will be held between 6-8 p.m. and the public is invited to meet the candidates and ask questions.
