UPDATE: There's a star party late Monday night into Tuesday morning hosted by Carson City Parks and Recreation and Open Space. For summer’s most visible meteor showers, join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space Department at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory for some late night, educational fun. No pre-registration necessary. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring water for night hiking from the Observatory. Head lamps and flashlights are allowed. Parking at the Observatory can be found at 2699 Vanpatten Ave, Carson City. Please call (775) 281-7711 with any questions. This upcoming Monday is the Aquariids Viewing Party starting at 12:00 a.m. Tuesday (technically Monday night).

Changes at the Carson City Business Resource Innovation Center coming in January

The business branch of the Carson City Library, currently housed at the Business Resource Innovation Center (the “BRIC”), will be relocating back to the main branch in January 2015. The BRIC Carson City library resources will close on Jan. 9 at 5 p.m. and are scheduled to reopen in the main library Jan. 26.

“With the new technology assets at the main branch, it makes sense to bring the BRIC resources back to the main branch,” said Sena Loyd, Carson City Library director.

NxLevel Course for Small Business Returns to Carson City

A NxLevel for Entrepreneurs business planning course begins next month in Carson City and ends in April, officials announced Monday.

Michael Salogga, Carson City business development manager and the instructor, and Kathy Carrico, Nevada SBDC training director, made the announcement and said the program provides people who want to start or grow a business the tools to proceed. The SBDC designation from America’s SBDC Nevada office in Reno stands for Small Business Development Centers.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, BRIC Art 5, with artwork by eight area artists at the City’s Business Resource Innovation Center [BRIC]. Parents and children turned the Carson City Library into a mini golf course Friday as part of the month-long Discover Tech program. The event featured engineering concepts as participants built ramps, tunnels and obstacles to create the course.

Nevada’s state engineers to cut ribbon at Carson City Library

From the Carson City Library on April 14 at 6 p.m. a group of six engineers are slated to cut the grand opening ribbon on a traveling exhibit supported by the National Science Foundation, titled Discover Tech: Engineers Make a World of Difference.

Nevada State Engineer Mr. Jason King, P.E. as well as five previous Nevada State Engineers who served in the top post starting from 1967 through 2010 will join King to celebrate arrival of the engineering-focused interactive exhibit.

Virginia and Truckee Railway at mid-century featured at March 20 Carson City lecture

The Carson City Historical Society will present its first "Third Thursday" lecture of 2014 with "The Virginia and Truckee Railway at mid-century and beyond: A personal glimpse," by Steve VanDenburgh.

The March 20, 6 p.m. presentation is at the Business Resource Innovation Center, also known as BRIC, which is a partnership of Carson City Library, Office of Business Development, Building, Engineering, Planning and Business Licensing, located at 108 E. Proctor Street.

Nevada Legal Service: Self-Help Clinic

Nevada Legal Services will provide a free legal self-help clinic on Thursday, February 27th at the BRIC, the Business Resource Innovation Center, located downtown at 108 East Proctor in Carson City.

The Self-Help Forms Completion Clinic will begin at 1:30 p.m. This workshop will provide general instructions and assistance regarding the completion of self-help forms for those who are self-represented litigants. A Notary Public will also be available.
