Nevada Commercial Rental Assistance Grant Program expands criteria, extends deadline

USDA Rural Development supports Nevada in 2015 with $177 million in grants

More than $177 million has been invested through the USDA into rural Nevada communities in the past year, assisting more than 700 families in either helping them buy homes or to make improvements to their properties, and investing more than $28 million for community water and sewer system repairs, officials said Friday.

More than $161 million was invested in rural Nevada in 2014 by the Department of Agriculture's Rural Development agency to support housing, business and community facilities. Since 2009, the rural agency has provided more than $987 million to strengthen rural Nevada’s families and communities.

Something amazing is happening in our Carson City! Once again our community is rising up to help a neighbor in need.

As many of you may have heard a favorite, downtown restaurant, Sassafras is being forced to relocate. The word spread throughout our community and one question was being asked “how can we help?”

I had a chance to attend a meeting of volunteers from the community to help organize a benefit to help Save our Sassafras. I then asked Owner, Scott Owen Doerr, what he wanted people to know. This is what he had to say:

USDA's Grants Support Rural Economic Development: Application Deadline is June 30

CARSON CITY - Economic development authorities, nonprofits and towns in rural Nevada that want to support rural business or create a revolving loan fund for business may now apply for USDA Rural Development’s Rural Business Enterprise Grant (RBEG). An estimated $82,060 is available. Applications are due by June 30, 2014.

Economic development authorities, nonprofits and towns in rural Nevada that want to support rural business or create a revolving loan fund for business may now apply for USDA Rural Development’s Rural Business Enterprise Grant. An estimated $82,060 is available. Applications are due by June 30, 2014.

The purpose of the RBEG is to support the creation and growth of sustainable rural business opportunities and jobs. Eligible entities are public bodies, private nonprofit corporations, rural development authorities, and federally recognized tribes. Individual businesses are not eligible.

NDOT Website Offers New Feature For Information On Disadvantaged Business Enterprises

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Transportation is offering a new feature on its website making it easier to find information about Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) and for the businesses to provide detailed information about the goods and services they provide.

The agency’s Civil Rights Division unveiled the advanced search feature to simplify the process of identifying DBEs.

Nevada Pushes Ahead To Implement ‘Unconstitutional’ Health Care Reform

CARSON CITY – It’s a rare occurrence that a governor calls a federal law “unconstitutional” one minute and advocates implementing that same law a minute later.

But that’s what happened earlier this week when Gov. Brian Sandoval called for Nevada to move forward with creating the Nevada Health Insurance Exchange, one of the mandates under the Obama administration’s 2010 health care bill.
