The 2017 Nevada State Legislature set aside a day to honor active duty military service men and women as well as veterans Wednesday.

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval and state lawmakers took time Wednesday to honor the service of Nevada’s military and veterans in a ceremony on the Capitol grounds.

A Special Day is set aside to honor Nevada's Veterans and Military at the Legislature

The public is invited to attend Veterans and Military Day at the Legislature in Carson City on Wednesday, March 15, 2017.

The day-long event starts at 8 a.m. with coffee. The opening ceremony begins at 9 a.m. featuring Governor Brian Sandoval. The ceremony will take place in front of the Veterans Memorial, located behind the Capitol Building.

Nevada unemployment rate drops to 5 percent in January, lowest since late 2007

Unemployment for the first month of 2017 in Nevada fell to 5 percent, the lowest it has been since late 2007, according to figures released Wednesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

U.S. 95 closed south of Fallon beginning Thursday through March 17 for flood control

Sandoval tours south Dayton retention pond following National Weather Service alert

Gov. Brian Sandoval toured the South Dayton Retention Pond near East Dayton on Tuesday following alerts from the National Weather Service that indicated the area may be compromised due to heavy rainfall.

Sandoval was joined by Lyon County Manager Jeff Page, Lyon County Commissioner Ken Gray, and State Water Engineer Jason King.

Report: Prescribed burn decisions by NDF cause of Little Valley Fire

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has sent a letter to President Donald Trump requesting disaster declaration for the floods in January.
