The 13th Annual Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival, sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association, continued Friday night with performances in downtown Carson City.

Are you ready for the new school year? One last weekend of summer break before the kids of Carson City head back, so make the most of it. Jazz and Beyond takes it up a notch in its final few days with eight hours of non-stop music downtown. Western Nevada College new soccer team plays its first home game today against Folsom Lake Community College. The sixth annual Hopefest Concert and Fundraiser at Carson Tahoe Hospital kicks off at 5 p.m. Enjoy food trucks, live music with the Waybacks, and more at the free, family friendly event. McFadden Plaza is where you’ll find Jazz and Beyond’s concert with the Jackie Landrum Band, Living the Good Life is serving up a performance by Prey for Son, or take the stage yourself at Carson Lanes’ karaoke. McFadden Plaza will be hopping tonight. Not only is there a Farmers Market late Wednesday afternoons, but Josh and Jenera have returned to the Firkin and Fox to host a weekly jam session. You'll find John and Cherie Shipley jazzing it up at Living the Good Life, and Glen Eagles Restaurant welcomes Terri Campillo and Craig Fletcher to their lounge every Wednesday through Saturday night to entertain you.

WEDNESDAY: Jazz and Beyond Music Festival

Carson kids have one last week to lay about, while their neighbors in Douglas and Lyon County are headed back to school. Jazz and Beyond continues with some fun times downtown. Me and Bobby McGee will appear in the Comma Courtyard, followed by the Rosebud Dance Band in the McFadden Plaza. Head to the Carson City Library to meet the Heroes of the Carson City Fire Department as part of the ongoing series, ‘What’s up in your community?’ Keep reading for all of Monday’s options.

The weekend has arrived and there are festivals everywhere. A Basque Festival and Picnic can be found in Gardnerville. Bowers Mansion hosts a Bluegrass Festival for the 31st year. Ta-Hoe Nalu Paddle Festival returns to King Beach for the weekend. The Annual Jazz and Beyond Music Festival has infiltrated the whole valley with musicians. I hope you like live music, Carson City, because tonight you’ve got plenty of it. No matter what your style, there is someone for you. Take the kids to the Nevada State State Train Museum for Lucky Diamond and the Gents of Jive or to the McFadden Plaza for an outdoor concert with Musicole. Leave the kids with a sitter if you’re going to head to Living the Good Life for some outdoor fun with CV-41 or inside the Westside Pour House with reggae group Whiskey Lung. A to Zen has a store-wide scavenger hunt to accompany their weekly open Mic.

What a fun Wednesday in store for Carson City. The usual options of Geeks Who Drink Trivia at Westside Pour House, Country Line Dancing at Carson Lanes, and the Farmers Market in McFadden Plaza still apply. Throw in some great music on the veranda at Adele's, a Ukulele Jam at Mormon Station in Genoa, and a Vintage Chevy Meet-up in Virginia City and things get a little more random. Crossroads Lounge is hosting their last Wednesday night karaoke this week; a new night and time will be announced soon. Carson Hot Springs invites all Veterans and Military members to come swim for free today.

Wednesday's Farmers Market enjoyed the benefits of the new Bob McFadden Plaza for the first time Wednesday night at Third and Curry streets downtown.

August means many things: Hot August Nights, the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, the return of football, and the last few weeks of summer vacation. The construction downtown is showing signs of advancement with the recent completion of the Bob McFadden Plaza.

Community members officially broke in the brand-new Bob McFadden Plaza Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast, a ribbon cutting and cool, refreshing water from the splash pad.

Children splashed through streaming fountains of water Saturday morning to break in the newly completed Bob McFadden Plaza, located on the old Third Street section between Carson and Curry streets.

I can understand if your plans for the weekend include sitting half-naked in front of a swamp cooler with an icy beverage. It has been quite roasty these last few days. Let me, however, attempt to lure you out with this weekend’s event list; there is plenty of fun to be found around the valley. Some of your options even include air conditioning and icy beverages.

In conjunction with the McFadden Plaza grand opening, the Carson City Information Technology department has partnered with internet service provider, SkyFiber Internet, to provide public outdoor Wi-Fi connectivity called “Battle Born WiFi” to sections of the downtown area.

Carson City celebrates the opening of Bob McFadden Plaza, located on Third Street between Carson and Curry Streets this Saturday, July 30 with a full schedule of events. Proceeds from the celebration will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

This week’s edition of It’s Your City with host Cortney Bloomer features Katie Leao, executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada. The two discuss current happenings and upcoming events.

Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson City present the 13th Annual Jazz & Beyond Festival. It features 17 days of Music and Art at multiple venues in Carson City, August 5-21.

"Jazz & Beyond is a homegrown event celebrating the talent of our region and relying on many local music fans who donate their time and effort," said committee co-chair David Bugli, President of the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc. "Volunteers, sponsors, and advertisers help us make the event one of the best in the area, and keep most performances admission free."

The Kids on Big Rigs event will include crafts, activities, and a diverse collection of big rigs to learn about. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada. Kids on Big Rigs will be hosted at the Grand Opening of the Bob McFadden Plaza, which is conveniently located near Bella Fiore Wines, Mom and Pop's Diner, and The Firkin and Fox. Join us in celebration of Bob McFadden’s legacy and the incredible transformation of the downtown corridor. At 7:00 p.m.

In this week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer talks with Zack Hames about the upcoming second annual Sassabration Festival on Saturday, July 16 from noon to 9 p.m. at Sassafras, 1500 Old Hot Springs Road.

The event features food, friendship, entertainment, vendors, a bicycle parade and free swimming at The Carson Hot Springs. The festival is a celebration of unity, diversity and community. See the video below.
