Boaters arriving at Lake Tahoe for July 4 weekend urged to clean vessels ahead of inspection

The July 4 holiday and fireworks celebrations always bring an influx of boaters to the Lake Tahoe Basin. With sunny skies and warm weather predicted for the week and into the three-day weekend, boaters are urged to clean, drain and dry their vessels before arriving at the roadside inspection stations to avoid delays and decontamination fees.

Nevada law enforcement to crack down on drunken boating

Law enforcement officers across Nevada will be on heightened alert for those violating boating under the influence laws during the annual Operation Dry Water weekend, June 25-26.

Operation Dry Water is a nationally coordinated heightened awareness and enforcement campaign, focused on deterring boaters from boating under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Hello fellow anglers, I wanted to give you a small report on the higher lakes in the Alpine County area. Although down in the valley the temperatures have been in the low 40's to mid 70 degrees. The higher lakes are still in winter, spring mode. Temperatures are in the low 30's and not rising until after mid day and may only hold a mid 60 degree temperature for an hour or so. Be prepared when you travel to the higher elevations.

Low pressure will move over northeast California and western Nevada Wednesday, bringing showers and isolated afternoon thunderstorms to the region, according to the National Weather Service.

During the week of April 17-23, the Nevada Department of Wildlife is joining a nationwide effort created by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators to promote boating education. Carson City weather: Strong winds ahead of Thursday storm, Sierra could get a foot of snow

Strong gusty winds are expected to arrive ahead of a winter weather system by Thursday prompting the National Weather Service to issue a High Wind Warning for the Carson City region and a Winter Weather Advisory for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra.

Outdoors with Don Q: Pyramid Lake trout season now open

This is a reminder that Pyramid Lake, which is located about 30-35 miles north of Reno-Sparks, is now open to fishing for its super-sized Lahontan cutthroat trout that range in size and are can be 20 pounds or bigger. That large, desert lake (roughly the same surface size as Lake Tahoe) has a three-month trout closure, each year, from July 1 to Sept. 30.

Severe Thunderstorm, Flash Flood Warning for Carson City, Carson Valley

UPDATE 1:43PM: The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Carson City, Carson Valley, Alpine County, and Southern Washoe County. Go here for details.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for western Carson City, Douglas County and the South Lake Tahoe, Stateline areas.

At 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. This storm was located over South Lake Tahoe and moving north at 20 mph.
