It is primary election day in Nevada. For Carsonites who didn't vote early, you can choose to vote at the Community Center or at the County Clerk's office, regardless of precinct. Join the Nevada National Guard at the Capitol for their Flag Day ceremony and celebration of the Army’s birthday. Mile High Jazz Band has something special in store. Not going to lie, I'm a lover of June. Not only is it unequivocally summer, it is also my birthday month. So today we say a fond farewell to May and the bizarre winter/spring/winter/summer weather that came with it. Early voting for the primary is underway at the Clerk's office in the Courthouse. Get out and explore the history of the west side of town with the Parks and Recreation easy walk. Head out to the archery range and learn to shoot a bow. Swing dance, line dance, and fire dancing are all out there for you to explore.

A few days left of school, a few days left of May: summer is knocking on the door and insisting to be let in. If only it would bring some sunshine with it, we’d be set. A 30-year-old Carson City man on probation and not allowed to drink alcohol as a condition of his probation was arrested early Friday on felony suspicion of giving an officer a false name to avoid prosecution, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Since the early 1980s, May has been a month for celebrating historic preservation and archaeology in Nevada. This year, the theme acknowledges the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act, which helps to stabilize neighborhoods and downtowns, contributes to public education, attracts investment, creates jobs, generates tax revenues, supports small business and affordable housing, and powers Nevada’s heritage tourism industry.

The final event of the Senior Project happens April 18 and Carson High School reserves the entire school day to these momentous, rigorous, relevant, and result driven speeches. The excitement at CHS is intense as these seniors dress for the occasion, dawning everything from professional business attire to scrubs depending on the nature of their projects. Though college and career are just around the corner, a feeling of anticipation, excitement, and soon-to-be graduation flows through the air at CHS.

After that cold snap earlier this week, it’s time to go enjoy the sunshine. Spend the afternoon cheering on the WNC Wildcats as they take on Salt Lake Community College. You’ll find the softball double-header at Livermore Sports Complex off Edmonds; baseball is played at the Harvey Field at Western Nevada College. Come to the Red Hut Cafe in Carson City from 3 to 7pm to meet Miss Lake Tahoe, Briana Neben and help her to raise funds for our local Children's Miracle Network hospital as she prepares to compete for Miss Nevada 2016. All proceeds will go to Renown Children's Hospital and will help to create miracles for the children and their families. This event is held on Briana's 23rd birthday, so come join the celebration!

Una Irene Gast passed away February 27th in her home in Carson City. She was born on April 6th, 1922 in Caribou Maine. She spent the first part of her life in Maine and New England. Una moved to Chicago and Detroit and worked for the auto industry.

This week's It's Your City with Cortney Bloomer features guest Deborah Stevenson, education curator at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City.

Fun and friendships start at the Nevada State Museum’s volunteer tour guide training set for Feb. 16-17 and 23-24 in Carson City. Volunteers are needed now and invited to join the free event that includes lectures, enrichment activities and all materials. Volunteers train to give tours of Nevada State Museum and the State Capitol for school-aged children and adults.

Carson City Children's Museum held is Wintercraft Fest today to the delight of children and parents alike. Craft tables and interactive museum exhibits kept everyone entertained during the 2-hour event that ends at 1pm.
