Carson City arrests: Vehicle owner calls cops, holds burglary suspect at gunpoint

Carson City Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign underway with $160,000 fundraising goal
Submitted by editor on Tue, 11/29/2016 - 11:28amBell ringers are back for the Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle campaign with more than 30 locations throughout Carson City, Douglas County and surrounding communities.
The campaign goal for 2016 is $160,000, said Salvation Army Captain Mark Cyr. Bell ringers in 2015 raised $151,200.
Salvation Army recruits dog scout bell ringer for Saturday kettle campaign
Submitted by editor on Wed, 12/17/2014 - 8:44amThe Salvation Army has some unique bell ringers out at Smith’s in Gardnerville this Saturday. Dog Scouts of America’s Nevada Chapter will be ringing bells with a little help from some K9 friends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Dog Scout Trace, the black lab, from the video below will be bell ringing. Trace is a scout in Dog Scouts of America. DSA is a program similar to Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts only for dogs. Dogs can earn badges for different service projects that they are involved in. Trace can earn a badge for his service project as a bell ringer.

It takes a lot of people to see through the annual campaign. The Salvation Army in Carson City will hold a job fair Friday and is looking for kettle workers, an office assistant and drivers to help with the holiday season. The fair runs from 10 a.m. to noon at the Salvation Army, 661 Colorado Street.
Carson City shows its holiday best at Snowflake Festival of Lights
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 12/07/2012 - 9:49pmBeing the capital city of Nevada, Carson City once again shines brighter and bucks the rest, turning the lights on Friday to not one but two Christmas trees during the kick-off of the two-day Snowflake Festival of Lights.
Perched on the State Capital steps, some 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Singing Ensemble sang Christmas carols to a crowd of hundreds (if not thousands) of parents, siblings, dignitaries, retirees, state workers and locals who swelled onto Carson Street in good measure.
Holiday cheer at two-day Carson City Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights

The enhanced event is tonight, Friday, Dec. 7, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ice skating continues until 10 p.m.
Tonight's night's festivities begin on the capitol grounds with the state tree, a bristlecone pine, and downtown Carson City being lit along with a procession including Santa, Mrs. Claus and the 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Music Students Singing Ensemble.
