Inaugural Lake Tahoe Climbing Festival set for Sept. 17

There’s no better moment than Lake Tahoe in the fall to showcase our world class climbing and bouldering by creating the first ever Lake Tahoe Climbing Festival & Bouldering Competition in Meyers on Sept. 17, 2011.

WALK WITH MARK AMODEI

The first of 3 Saturday morning walks to support Mark Amodei's campaign for Congressional District 2 U.S. House seat will be held Saturday 13, 2011. The walkers will start off from the Carson City Republican Headquarters located at 1931 California St., (across from Lowe's shopping center) on the corner of California and Fairview, at 9:00am.

The walkers will be treated to a BBQ of chicken and ribs after the walk in Fuji Park, with entertainment by country western great Larry Gatlin showing his support of candidate Mark Amodei.

Carson City Sheriff's Office hosts National Night Out on Aug. 2

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the National Association of Town Watch will co-sponsor the 28th annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at Mills Park.
The theme for this year is “101 Days of Crime Prevention and Safety” which was envisioned by Sheriff Ken Furlong to promote safety throughout the summer which continues well after National Night Out. Festivities run from 5 to to 8 p.m.

Carson City Democratic Womens' Club and Central Committee's Family BBQ and Carnival

Bring the family for a good old fashioned picnic and for games and prizes. For $15 you get food, a soft drink, a door prize ticket and a yellow ducky. Kids under 12 years are $5. Food for Thought's "Saddle up For Kids" BBQ fundraiser

Tickets are now on sale for Food for Thought's spring fundraiser, Saddle up For Kids, on May 20 from 4-8 p.m. There will be terrific BBQ from Carson City BBQ, great entertainment from the cast of Oklahoma, and auction items ranging from the use of a Hawaiian vacation home to books from local authors.

Heavenly announces extended season resort operations

For all you experts of the terrain parks, Heavenly Mountain Resort has something new and exciting for you. Plus details on that last week of operations for the ski and rider season.

Heavenly has announced its plan for the week of April 19 – 25. In mid-March, Heavenly announced the extension of the 2009-10 season by one week in response to conditions and a plentiful snowpack. This season the resort will operate the final week with the most ski and snowboard terrain available in the past three years.

Ski Patrol races at Squaw Valley

April 16 through April 18, 2010, Squaw Valley is hosting the first ever nation-wide Professional Ski Patrol Olympics. Competitions ranging from simulated bomb throws to a GS race down some of Squaw Valley’s most difficult terrain will take place by the Headwall chairlift on Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18.
Spectators and patrollers alike can watch the head-to-head battles from theCornice II snow lounge featuring barbequed food and PBR for sale.
Patrollers from all over the country and Canada will be competing for glory and a $1,500 cash purse and prizes compliments of Helly Hansen.
