Nevada 150 events planned throughout July

Many celebrations are scheduled statewide in the month of July. These Nevada 150 events help celebrate all things Nevada and bring awareness to the state’s 150th Anniversary of Statehood. The following events are held July 1 through July 12.

Basque food, festivities on Friday at Silver Oak Golf Club in Carson City

Silver Oak Golf Club and Executive Conference Center in Carson City will host a basque dinner as part of its Fabulous First Fridays campaign.
Festivities, including Picon Punch specials, run from 5 to 10 p.m. Buffet is served from 5 to 7 p.m. DJ and dancing from 7 to 10 p.m. The cost is $25 per person. Reservations encouraged.

Nevada 150 Events Held Throughout June

Many events are scheduled throughout the Silver State in the month of June. These Nevada 150 events help celebrate all things Nevada and bring awareness to the state’s 150th Anniversary of Statehood. The following are events held June 3 through June 15.

Carson City scavenger hunt celebrates historic Nevada preservation and archaeology

Since the early 1980s, May has been a month for celebrating historic preservation and archaeology in Nevada. To kick off the celebration, there will be a monthlong Historic Resources Commission Scavenger Hunt in Carson City and other events around northern Nevada.

Organizations and agencies have maintained a long tradition to promote history and spread awareness of archaeological and historic preservation efforts throughout the state, encouraging both residents and visitors to explore and learn about Nevada’s significant archaeological and historical treasures.

Carson High student takes her senior project to the highest power

For her senior project, Carson High School student Becky Ortiz asked for a higher power to guide her. She and more than 150 fellow students, siblings, parents and grandparents found their way to the commons area in front of Nevada's highest court Saturday to reach for that power.

December's Empty Bowls Project in Carson City raises more than $2,700 for FISH

The Empty Bowls project, a locally organized fundraiser that culminated at the Carson City Silver and Snowflake Festival on Dec. 6 and was initiated to bring awareness of local hunger issues, raised $2,722.35 for Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, which feeds, houses and provides services for more than 20,000 people in Carson City annually.

'Pie to the Rescue' campaign down to last 33 pies: Order now

Mediterranean cuisine featured at Villa Basque culinary show

Villa Basque Deli and Cafe in Carson City, known for its basque specialties, featured a fun and educational culinary show Saturday enjoyed by more than 60 local residents.

It was ''Mediterranean Diet'' day at the restaurant, hosted by Carol Paz of the popular Women to Women Nevada program, her husband Chef Don Pepe Owner of Carpa LLC and Villa Basque Deli and Cafe owners Pete and Martha Coscarart.

Free Mediterranean food cooking demonstration Saturday at Villa Basque

Free multi-cultural Fall celebration Sunday at Fuji Park in Carson City

Carson Valley Visitors Authority to hire spokeswoman to showcase area attractions, amenities

The job is simple: tell visitors why Carson Valley, Nev. is “Rugged. Relaxed. Reachable.” all while riding a horse. The Carson Valley Visitors Authority is looking for one horse savvy woman to become the “Carson Valley Rider.”

Launched in 2012, the “Rugged. Relaxed. Reachable.” campaign plays upon the area’s gateway status as a tourism outfitter for the region. From Topaz Lake and the Pine Nut Mountains to the Tahoe Rim Trail, Carson Valley is looking for a storyteller to bring it all together.

Historic Dangberg Ranch picked among favorite Nevada places

CARSON CITY — For the second year, online voters picked the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Minden as one of six standout sites in the 2013 Nevada Treasures in the Discover Your Nevada contest, officials announced Monday.

The Nevada Northern Railway in Ely, the Star Hotel and Basque Restaurant in Elko, the Lost City Museum in Overton, the Nevada State Museum in Las Vegas and the Pahrump Valley winery were also picked, said Claudia Vecchio, Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs director.

Carson City deputies arrest California women in credit card scheme

Two California women stopped by Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies on Tuesday have admitted to a scheme of using stolen credit cards to buy hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards.

Markeisha Yvette Orviss, 22, and Kamesha Joann Cooper, 24, of Pittsburg, Calif., were arrested by Carson City sheriff's patrol officers in the 3900 block of South Carson Street at 12:15 p.m.
