Carson City Parks and Recreation 2018 high school basketball league registration opens

Don’t forget that the Carson City Parks and Recreation High School Basketball League registration is still open and will be through Monday, Feb. 12.

Carson City Parks and Recreation offers two different divisions for this league, a Boys Division and a Girls Division. This league was created to allow any and all high school students that enjoy the sport of basketball the opportunity to play with their peers.

First Judicial Court Juvenile Division judge addresses foster shortage in Carson City

There are not enough foster families in Carson City to meet the need, forcing children to be displaced into other communities — possibly causing further trauma. Information meetings this Wednesday and in March will address the shortage and ways to recruit families wanting to help.

Sierra Lutheran Hosts Grade School Night Basketball Games

All families of grade school students are invited to this annual event on Saturday, Feb. 3. Families will be admitted to all basketball games for FREE. There will be half-time games for the kids, and young basketball players are encouraged to attend the locker room “pre-game talks” with Varsity coaches.

Snack bar and free photo opps will be available. Varsity games are at 4 & 5:30pm, versus Mineral County (Hawthorne). Don't miss this fun event and a chance to get to know Sierra Lutheran High School a little bit better!

Great news for Carson High School students as Librarian Ananda Campbell is making sure her library stays cutting edge.

Campbell was awarded both the Library Services and Technology Act Community Enrichment Grant from the Nevada State Library and Archives and the Carson City School District Schools Foundation Mini Grant Teacher Award to help fund Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Projects and to assist in facilitating an ever-changing CHS Senators Library Collaborative Learning area.

Falcons Academic Olympics Closes Out Strong Fall Sports Season for SLHS

As Sierra Lutheran’s winter sports season begins, they are looking back and celebrating the last Fall NIAA sport to finish its season - Academic Olympics. 



Over Thanksgiving break, AO teams from around the region travelled to Eureka for the State Championship. Sierra Lutheran’s team members are the Regional Champions, winning the Western Division by a margin of 10 points. Quite a feat, considering how strong the Western Division is - Whittell, the team ranked 3rd regionally, was the State Champion.

Last week, a basketball game among rivals Douglas High and Carson High inspired more comradery than animosity as it raised money for the teens injured in the Nov. 9 rollover. Tonight, an alumni hoops battle takes place to raise more money; go cheer them on, we are all winners in this game. The weather should be wonderful for this afternoon’s downtown walk with Muscle Powered. The Friends of the Carson City Library bring author J.L. Pattison to Browsers Corner for their November meet and greet.

Senator Square: Carson High School vs Douglas was a basketball rivalry with a purpose

And the winners are, everyone. The third annual Carson High School vs. Douglas High School Charity Basketball Game lit up CHS Wednesday, Nov. 15 and, as rivalry was put aside, it turned out to be the most successful basketball game fundraiser in CHS history with $10,000 raised for the seven students injured in the Nov. 9 vehicle accident on Kings Canyon Road.
