A Thanksgiving Turkey Drop for families in need will be held Friday at Max Casino. The holiday movie premieres of “Feliz NaviDAD” and “Once Upon A Main Street” on Saturday will feature different venues in Carson City. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

Designed to create an opportunity for artists to engage with community members and people working in or visiting the Nevada State Legislative Building, the presentations are at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 18 and 24, March 19 and 30, April 17 and May 7. All are free and open to the public in Room 3100.
Rowan debuts at Legislative Exhibition Series Feb. 2

Her “Rainbow Spiral” pine needle basket is among her works featured in “Pine Spirit” at the Legislative eXhibition Series Gallery Feb. 2-20 in the Nevada Legislative Building.

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 06/26/2013 - 12:02pmJoin instructor, Sande Rowan, in learning a few simple coil attachment techniques that will provide the fundamentals for beginning basket makers. It may also add a new dimension if you have previous experience. For this project we are fortunate to have custom ceramic bowls from Nevada Potter Kym Maehl as the attachment base. You will learn how to begin by attaching to the top of the bowl, how to build the coiled walls, how to add beads, and how to finish the rim. Pine needles will be used as the core material, with either twine or raffia as the binding.
