The event will start at 1 p.m. and includes a barbecue lunch with food provided by Foodies Bystro and entertainment by Jake Houston. Proceeds from the event will help to build the new animal shelter in Carson City.

Non-lethal bear management tools helpful among Nevada wildlife wardens

BEAR Logic means to think like a bear and try looking at your property from a bear’s perspective. This will help you understand why bears are frequenting your property and how you can avoid these encounters.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife strives with every bear interaction to keep the bear wild and alive. In fact, the agency biologists and game wardens have a number of tools they deploy when handling a conflict bear, purposely designed to be non-lethal.
Governor puts his signature on CASI fundraising silent auction donation
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 06/18/2014 - 10:25amTwo Carson City residents working on a project for the 7th annual CASI Bark, Whine and Dine set for Sunday, July 27 at Fuji Park have gotten a rare gift donation from the Nevada Governor's Office.
Volunteers Adrianne S. Harris and George M. Allen asked Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval if he could provide a signed autograph on something that can be sold at the silent auction. The governor agreed and his secretary presented the volunteers a limited edition 12-inch by 14-inch print by Reno artist Roy Powers. The print is of the Governor's mansion.

The writing workshop will take place Tuesday, April 8 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The reading follows immediately at 5:30 p.m.
The free events are part of CCAI’s Books and Writers series co-sponsored with the Carson City Library. CCAI and the Library enthusiastically invite all readers and writers to attend the workshop and reading.
UNR student Sontag competition team awarded $50,000 for entrepreneurship

Using flood gate automation, field surveys and water and soil sensors all connected to the cloud, Irrigo is developing a more efficient way to irrigate agricultural fields.

Carson City thanks Home Depot employees

They arrived at 8:00 A.M. both days and their employees donated their own time to doing various park improvements to Korean War Veterans Memorial Park, located at East Fifth Street and Marsh Road.
Public asked to report sightings of non-native white satin moths
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 07/08/2013 - 2:10pmCARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Division of Forestry would like help determining how widespread and severe the White Satin Moth, Leucoma salicis, infestation is in northern Nevada. The non-native insect is capable of defoliating aspen, cottonwoods and willows.
In flight now, the White Satin Moth can be found flying in the upper canopy of any poplar species and laying eggs or mating on trunks, leaves or branches.

State worker launches budget deficit plan, issues challenge to economists
Submitted by editor on Tue, 01/11/2011 - 5:11pmCarl Kuhl, a state Parole and Probation employee of six years, has created a plan that he claims will eliminate Nevada's budget deficit within two years.
In a news release issued on Tuesday, Kuhl said his plan not only will reduce the budget deficit but also help repair Nevada's economy at the same time. It is a pretty big claim, he admits, coming from an Accounting Assistant I, an entry level position.
University of Nevada, Reno professor wins national entomology award

He was honored at the Society’s annual meeting in San Diego Sunday.
