Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe event celebrates 20 years
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 02/27/2020 - 7:46pmThe 20th Annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe Celebration returns once again to the Sierra on Saturday, March 7 at 9:00 am, at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe.
Snow or no snow, event activities begin with a guided tour starting at 9:30 am with Norwegian native and longboard ski expert Nina MacLeod, who will also give a longboard ski demonstration if sufficient snow is present. Attendees should bring their own snowshoes and cross country skis.
Carson City community radio KNVC 95.1 continues to grow as it enters third year on the air

KNVC runs out of the historic Adams House on North Minnesota Street and, at present, boasts 31 volunteers into its broadcasting family.
Local dignitaries visit Carson City elementary classrooms, guest-read for reading week

In celebration, many schools often dedicate an entire week as “Reading Week.” In Carson City, grade-schoolers at Fremont Elementary School got to celebrate a week prior to the observance with several community partners and local dignitaries, who visited classrooms to read to students.

150th anniversary of Carson City Mint happens this Tuesday

Visitors to the Nevada State Museum in Carson City this Tuesday, Feb. 4, will find themselves in history’s front row as the museum celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint. Just as it did 150 years earlier to the day, the Mint’s Coin Press No. 1 will be pressing silver coins, complete with the famous “CC” mint mark.

Award Winning Poet David Lee Offers Reading Nov. 2 in Silver City

His repeated stays in the historic Comstock town inspired his latest book of poems, Mine Tailings. It is dedicated to the people of Silver City. The book was released by 5 Sisters Press this Fall, and will be the focus of Lee’s reading at the Silver City Schoolhouse (community center) on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.
