If you’ve ever wondered whether you could be a star, join other thespians and give it a try! Audition for Carson Valley Community Theatre’s (CVCT) next production, “Last Round-Up of the Guacamole Queens”, a jones hope wooten Southern-Fried High School Reunion Comedy.

After a long hiatus, Carson Valley Community Theatre will be holding auditions for its new summer production, "Beautiful Noise: Music That Moves Us."

Mark your calendars and come to The Annex, 1572 Hwy 395 in Minden. Auditions are on Thursday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 1 at 10 a.m. Those auditioning should prepare a song and bring music for piano accompaniment or a back-track. We will be casting two men and two women of any age for the show.

Students from all four classes recently nominated Carson High School Winterfest candidates for 2021 Winterfest week, Feb. 1-5, where both a King and Queen will be crowned. The theme, Destination Unknown, was decided upon; since students are not allowed to experience the vacations they love, they are bringing their vacation destinations to CHS.

According to Teen Health and Wellness, Rosen Publishing, “Sharing stories is a powerful way to connect with other people. By sharing your own story, you can connect with other teens who are dealing with similar experiences. Your words can provide hope and comfort, or empower them to face their own challenges.”

We miss the stage, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make theater. Wild Horse Children’s Theater is looking for young actors, singers, and dancers, ages 10 and up for our new Virtual Broadway Workshop.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The American Cancer Society is hosting a poker run Saturday at Mills Park, and a free lacrosse clinic for kids ages 6-12 will be held at John L. Harvey Field. The Nevada Humane Society is virtually hosting its annual “Adopt a Duck” fundraiser for interested participants. Combined with train rides and live music, there’s plenty of excitement going on over the weekend! Read on for more information.

Proscenium Players, Carson City’s longest running theater company is casting for voice actors in the production of an original radio drama “Secrets of Harridge House” with 13 episodes. The premiere broadcast is scheduled for this fall and multiple seasons are planned.

The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company is used to building big Broadway productions this time of year, generally drawing from 6,000 to more than 7,000 people from 20 states and Canada. But there’s a bit of a problem.

The coronavirus isn’t stopping Wild Horse Productions from continuing its theater arts productions and programs and keeping our young actors engaged!

This summer will be different as WHP is replacing its’ in-person summer programming for 2020 with a virtual experience.

CARSON CITY — Comedy thru the Ages, the 2020 production of the Carson Follies, is seeking actors, dancers, singers and stage personnel for its upcoming show July 10-12. Auditions will be held Thursday, March 5, and Tuesday, March 10, from 6-8 p.m. at the Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive in Carson City.

Students from Wild Horse Children's Theater in Carson City won a Freddie G Excellence in Music national theater award and earned recognition at the 2020 Junior Theater Festival West, which happened Feb. 7-9, 2020 at Wells Fargo Pavilion.

Capitol FFA traveled to North Valleys High School Feb. 1 in order to compete in the Northern FFA Zone Competition. CHS Agriculture Mechanics, Welding, and FFA Adviser and teacher Rebecca Glocknitzer said, "I know all of our students worked hard to prepare for Zone, and Mr. Mann and I are so proud of their efforts."

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a toy and gift drive for homeless kids and teens, the 12th annual Christmas Carol Playalong for Strings at the Carson Mall, Carson City’s first-ever "Unsilent Night" at the Brewery Arts Center, a Só Sol dinner with entertainment at Sassafras, a "Pink Party" cancer center fundraiser at the Lighthouse Bar, comedian Dan St. Paul at the Carson Comedy Club and more.

Where does the time go? Everyone has heard this a thousand times, but people still need to be reminded of the question anyway because everyone, regardless of what they believe, needs to stop and take a moment to enjoy the moment.

Enjoying the mix of sunshine, clouds and the overall late fall conditions around the capital city? More of the same is expected Wednesday into Thursday, with another system due in time for the weekend. Activities around Carson City include an educational discussion on dementia presented by the Alzheimer's Association at the Carson City Library, a moonlight walk to C-Hill, a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, a Carson Valley Community Theatre audition call for two plays, classes and more.

This production is the inaugural show of the newly-formed adult and young adult theater company, Wild Horse Stage Company which produces both small and large scale shows geared towards adult and young adult performers and audiences in Northern Nevada. We are dedicated to producing high-caliber, innovative productions of contemporary theater that inspire, engage, and entertain the community.

What better way to celebrate the holidays, and get into the Christmas spirit than to sing Christmas songs with your local community. If you've ever wanted to share your talent with others, come on down to the auditions and
be prepared to sing a song with accompaniment. Piano sheet music, CD or a tape, and a cappella can be accommodated.

Heading into the midweek, Wednesday, August 14, 2019 activities abound around the capital city. There's a new group for writers that meets at the Brewery Arts Center; a salary negotiation workshop at WNC, a chautauqua and author presentations at Dangberg Historic Park. There's also the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival that will feature the Wesley Orsolic Trio during Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC, with jams to continue at Living the Good Life; there's also a real estate workshop for veterans, art showings, salsa dancing and more. Youth Theatre Carson City is thrilled to announce auditions for "Shrek: The Musical, Jr." The show will run eight performances, January 17-26, 2020 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center. Get in the Act Theater Camp is celebrating its 19th summer of providing aspiring young performers to the magical world of theater.

Camp locations are at Dayton Community Center, June 24-28, grades 3-7, 9 a.m. to noon and the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City, July 8-12, Grades Kindergarten through grade 3 from 9 a.m. to noon; tuition is $125.

Going solo, regardless the venture, can be a scary thought. Add a violin, a complex classical piece, and an audience of a couple hundred music enthusiasts, and a whole different kind of focus is required.

Such is not a new experience for 2018 Sierra Lutheran High School alumna Aleyna Gilson, who will find the spotlight on her again at the end of this month when she performs Mendelssohn’s concerto in E minor at the Orchestra Concerto Concert at Point Loma Nazarene University, in San Diego.

Chase Johnson had a tiger by the tail once, and now he’s chasing another one. After the Carson City product received his Bachelors of Science in Psychology, with a Minor in Linguistics last year from Louisiana State University, the LSU Tigers alum, and 2014 Sierra Lutheran High School graduate, is now pursuing study of a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at LSU.
