Nevada conservation department celebrates 50 years of National Trails System
Submitted by editor on Mon, 05/28/2018 - 10:18amCARSON CITY — With the passage of the National Trails System Act on June 2, 1968, America received an incredible gift: The creation and protection of extraordinary trails to discover, explore, and connect with nature. With approximately 2,485 miles of national trails throughout the Silver State, the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is excited to “wear our hearts on our backpacks” as we join the country in celebrating five decades of the National Trails System.
Carson High CTE agriculture program teaches with pop culture, industry professionals
Submitted by editor on Fri, 02/12/2016 - 6:34pmCarson High School Career and Technical Education agriculture program lead teacher, Charlie Mann, donned his dress, braided his beard and welcomed his Agriculture 1 students to the Hunger Games.
The Carson City students have been studying world hunger, commodities, production and trade throughout the semester, and the Hunger Games simulation gave them an opportunity to examine trade and barter with their peers while relating to popular culture.
Museum offers archeology program to children, families Saturday
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 07/09/2015 - 9:39amThe Nevada State Museum, Carson City’s Family Fun Saturday program for July is “Project Archaeology: Investigating Shelter,” for ages 10 through adult from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 11. No reservations needed.
The event is designed to allow visitors to gain appreciation for American Indian cultures of the Great Basin, with an emphasis on archaeological methods for learning about the ways people used shelters in the past.
UNR lecture to feature Robert Ballard, discoverer of Titanic wreckage

Kennedy's PT-109. The famous ocean explorer is the final speaker in this year’s Discover Science Lecture Series Thursday, April 3 at the University of Nevada, Reno.

St. Mary Louise Hospital in Virginia City opened in 1876 and served the mining community until the early 20th century.
