Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF) is hosting a casual al fresco Yappy Hour on Tuesday, July 9, from 4-6 PM at Genoa’s Sierra Chef. The popular catering company and cooking school will be providing delicious complimentary nibbles and wine and beer will be available for purchase in keepsake WARF glasses. Canine companions are invited to attend. WARF is raising awareness about its new Animal Sanctuary under construction in Stagecoach. Yappy Hour is open to the public and admission is free.

At the end of the inauguration at the capitol building in Carson City on Monday, two mounted police horses took their well-earned break by sipping at the water trough located across from the festivities.

Nearly 30 pets found forever homes during Saturday's adoption event hosted by Coldwell Banker Select Real Estate and partnering animal shelters in the Carson City, Minden, Dayton and Reno areas.

Several of the stops will be hosting musicians, in addition to vino.

It didn't take long after the recent refurbishing of the horse trough watering fountain before units from the Carson City, Washoe, Reno, and Sparks law enforcement units stopped by to water the horses during the Nevada Day Parade on Saturday. This was a wonderful flashback to the original purpose of the fountains and the rebuild this year.

The weather cools down just as the fun heats up. Fundraisers, contests, food, football, outhouse races and more. Carson Valley Community Theater has one last performance of ‘The Savannah Sippin Society.’ Pooches in costume are welcome at Genoa’s last Sweet Sippin Sunday: there will be a pet parade at 3 p.m. And for all those brides out there's there's a fall wedding faire at Silver Oak Golf Club. CASI’s annual Pooch Plunge at the Carson Aquatic Center is always a fun time for your furry friends. Red’s Old 395 welcomes back the THiNK PiNK kick-off to breast cancer awareness month. Downtown you’ll find the wine walk, a rummage sale at the Veterans Memorial Hall, and the Fall Vintage Market at Due Sorella. Toast the season at Fandango: Oktoberfest has returned. It’s hard to believe that nearly two years ago we began a partnership with Carson City, as the city selected Nevada Humane Society to lead Carson City Animal Services. Our tasks would not only include pet adoptions and animal sheltering, but the animal regulation services too.

Jazz and Beyond Music Festival continues with four bands out at the Silver Saddle Ranch in conjunction with a celebration of 20 years of the Quality of Life Initiative. Nevada Humane Society is proud to announce Kiska Icard as the new Chief Executive Officer. She is an experienced animal welfare professional with over 20 years of experience leading Bay Area non-profit organizations.

Recently, one of our directors was travelling and saw a fun billboard (on the east coast, not local) advertising super heroes. It gave her an idea. She came back to me and we began to brainstorm. Super heroes can be from any walk of life, have any personality, and be any age.

It usually happens once a year — a big, community wide, fee-waived pet adoption event. The goal? To get a large number of animals into loving homes all at one time while freeing up much needed space in the shelters.
