The William N. Pennington Teen Center at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada campus is now officially opened thanks to a Carson City Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening festivities Thursday.

There is little argument that every child needs financial and emotional support to grow and flourish. As the parent, it is your duty to support your children from the time of birth, including pregnancy and birth related expenses, until the child reaches the age of majority (in Nevada, 18 years of age) and is no longer enrolled in high school.

This obligation is true even if the parents are not married and even when one parent has not been, or is not involved in the child’s life. Although there are exceptions to this scenario, this is the case for most family situations.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada offered a glimpse of its new William N. Pennington Teen Center on Monday ahead of its June 23 grand opening celebration.

Funded by a $1.2 million naming gift from the William N. Pennington Foundation of Reno and donations from the community, the Club broke ground on the Carson City teen center in October 2015.

Nevada Business Weekly recently announced the 2016 Legal Elite. For the past nine years, Legal Elite has highlighted Nevada’s top attorneys as selected by a community of their peers; only 3.7 percent of attorneys in the Silver State receive this coveted recognition. This year, over 6,000 nominations were received in four categories: Northern Nevada, Southern Nevada, The Best Up and Coming, and Top Government Attorneys. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada hosted their annual fundraiser, “World’s Greatest Luau and Kids’ Auction” on Sunday in Carson CIty with more than 700 attending.

This year the event was a luau theme, complete with mai tais, a roasted pig, and Club member entertainment. Marv Teixeira, former Carson City mayor, was presented with the first-ever “Distinguished Service Award” for his commitment to the Club and the youth in Carson City.

Food For Thought would like to think all the people who came out and supported us at our Saddle Up For Kids Events. Friday, June 28th’s dinner at the Governor’s Mansion and Saturday, June 29th’s Carnival at Mills Park wouldn’t have been as successful if not for our volunteers!
