Annual Light After Dark Walk/Run raises awareness and funds for Advocates
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Fri, 10/10/2014 - 5:30pmThe Advocates to End Domestic Violence invite everyone to join the 'Light After Dark Walk/Run' on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014. Starting at 11 a.m. on Race Day, participants can pick-up their packets at Riverview Park. Warm-ups will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the RACE starting at 6 p.m. The race course will be the Full Loop once around for the 5K and twice around for the 10K. There will be music and refreshments after the race. They encourage participants to dress up. Each participant will given a glow stick to wear during the event.
Schmidt files countersuit against Kieckhefer, seeks in excess of $10K
Submitted by admin on Tue, 06/10/2014 - 7:34pmState senate candidate Gary Schmidt has filed a countersuit against his opponent in today's Republican primary, state Sen. Ben Kieckhefer, R-Reno.
Kieckhefer first moved their campaign into the courtroom by filing a defamation lawsuit against Schmidt last Friday.
Boys & Girls Club receives $10k donation from Carson City Toyota

"Every day we serve 600 to 800 kids, for a nominal fee, so we never charge the parents too much," said Laurie Gorris, Chief Professional Officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada. "And they get after school programing, homework help and a meal every day and mentoring."

Grand Slam Run

This is a 5K and 10K event for the entire family. Registration is $25 Adults prior to April 18 and $30 after and only $15 for kids ages 5-14. There will be race day registration from 8:30-9:30 am for $35. Registration for the race gets you a water bottle and buffet lunch. You can also purchase Lunch tickets for $10 if you aren't able to run.
Domestic Violence Awareness month culminates with Light the Night Oct. 20 at Riverview Park

This event, a fundraiser for Advocates, is a spinoff of the national Take Back the Night campaign, bringing it closer to home and creating Carson City's own event to bring awareness to domestic violence and sexual assault, said Traci Trenoweth, volunteer coordinator for Advocates.
