Letter: Carson City DMV wait time
I arrived at the Carson City DMV yesterday to check in for my 11:45 appointment to renew my drivers license. After going through the line to check in I was told to take a seat and wait for my number to be called. The office wasn't any more crowded than on any other day I'd been there.
I expected I'd need to wait maybe half an hour. But the clock ticked on. The people sitting behind me had an appointment with their 90+ year-old mother to surrender her license and get an ID card.
Their appointment was for 11:30. Soon the personnel began leaving for their lunch breaks, one by one they left and at one point there was ONE person at the windows working. My number was called at 1:50 pm.
The helpful lady took my information in a very professional and timely manner and I was out of there at 2:05 pm. In years past I was always pleased by how well the Carson City DMV seemed to be running. NOT NOW! Why do we need to make an appointment when we just wind up sitting over to the side for so long?
And why the long wait in the first place? Two hours? If this is going to be the common wait time from now on can they PLEASE mention that on the website where we go to make the appointment? Bring your book, Sudokus, knitting, LUNCH! A sleeping bag.
