Pickleball classes at the Carson City's MAC to resume in spring
Saturday wrapped up the third and final two-hour Intro to Pickleball Class at the Robert “Bob” Crowell Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) in Carson City. Around 40 new players attended each of the three sessions, held on 6, 13 and 20 November. It was amazing and gratifying to see how much improvement the new players demonstrated in such a short time.
Thanks to Carson City Parks and Recreation Department, and USA Pickleball for sponsoring this free event, which was part of the 25th anniversary celebration of passage of the Quality of Life Initiative (aka Question 18). Also a big “thank you” goes out to the more than twenty volunteer “coaches” who introduced this fun sport to the new players.
This class will be followed by a “skills and drills” class on Sunday, 19 December at the MAC, where the new players can hone their newly acquired skills.
These classes are organized by local USA Pickleball Ambassadors Juana Beguelin and Dave Whitefield, in support of their mission to promote and grow the sport. There are over 2,000 volunteer Ambassadors in the United States. Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports around, growing by more than 20% in 2020, with a total of 4.2 million players in the USA.
Pickleball is easy to learn, can be enjoyed by all ages and is very social. Carson City is fortunate to have a great indoor pickleball facility at the MAC, as well as eight outdoor courts with permanent nets at Mills Park, just east of the Aquatics Center.
If you haven’t tried it yet, check out pickleball at the Mills Park courts when the weather is good, or at the MAC when it’s too cold or windy to play outdoors. New players are always welcome. If you missed out on this intro session, stay tuned for another one next spring.
