Capital City Community Band returns for Nevada Day concert following parade
The Capital City Community Band will present its annual Nevada Day concert at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, immediately following the parade, in the Capital Amphitheater in Carson City.
The concert will feature a variety of music, from Broadway show tunes to marches and patriotic songs. A special feature will be “Home Means Nevada” arranged by Marine Band Sgt. Scott Ninmer.
This arrangement features Jen Simkins on vocals and Todd DeVito on euphonium. The concert will also feature Mayor Lori Bagwell narrating “A Sousa Portrait, the Story of John Philip Sousa.” This free concert will also include the band’s traditional musical salute to each branch of our armed forces.
The Capital City Community Band, which was founded in 1978 by Richard Doede, is under the direction of Mr. Nick Jacques and is comprised of community members from Carson City, Dayton, Reno, Sparks, and Gardnerville.
This year there will also be a very special performance beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Carson High School Blue Thunder Marching Band, under the direction of Nick Jacques, and the Reed High School Marching Band, under the direction of Ron Eichstedt, will present a pre-concert performance. Come early and enjoy this performance by our wonderful high school students.
Parents are encouraged to bring their children to enjoy this concert. Bring a lawn chair or blanket on which to sit.
Please join us for this free concert on Saturday, October 28 in the Capital Amphitheater in the Legislative Mall at 2 p.m., weather permitting.
