Carson City Park Ranger-led programs happening in October
The Carson City Park Rangers offer various Ranger-Led programs each month that include educational opportunities, historical fun, and exciting adventures. Programs are offered for free and all you have to do is register online.

Junior Park Ranger Activity – Outdoor safety and Leave No Trace
Grab your Adventure Guides and join a Carson City Park Ranger for this important Junior Ranger activity! You'll work through pages 3-5 with a Park Ranger while hiking the Kings Canyon area. Learn about necessary outdoor safety tips and the 7 Leave No Trace Principles. We’ll also stop at the picturesque waterfall for some junior ranger selfies.
The hike will be about 2 miles total over semi-steep terrain. The trail is considered "More Difficult" according to the IMBA trail rating system. Bring all hiking essentials including closed-toe shoes and layers. Adventure Guides and other needed materials will be provided.

Fall Colors Hike
Join the Carson City Park Rangers for a relaxing stroll through the cottonwood groves of the Carson River for the 5th annual Fall Colors Hike! Learn why the leaves change colors, what our animal friends are doing in preparation for winter, and everything you wanted to know about the Carson River.
The trail is considered "easy" according to the IMBA and will be roughly three miles long. We will venture to the Mexican Dam and back via the Historic Mexican Ditch Trail! Dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes.

After Dark Cemetery Tour
Join the Carson City Park Rangers for a night of spooky historical fun at Lone Mountain Cemetery. We will make our way around the cemetery stopping at famous historical figure burial sites and learning about their lives. Expect possible visits from Henry Marvin Yerington, P.H. Clayton, Hank Monk, and more!
The walk will be between 0.5 and 1 mile. Dress for the weather and remember closed-toe shoes. It'll be dark so bring along flashlights if you need them; the Park Rangers will be able to light the pathway. This program is open to participants 13 and older. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. A $10 donation is not required but strongly encouraged. You can pay the donation upon checkout or in cash at the activity.
