Fall golf tournament to raise funds for Dayton, Silver Springs and Yerington food pantries
Help “drive out hunger” at the fourth annual Fall Harvest Golf Classic Golf Tournament. The event takes place Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Dayton Valley Golf Club, an Arnold Palmer designed facility. All proceeds benefit Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ food pantries in Yerington, Silver Springs and Dayton.
Play a round, sponsor a hole and cheer your friends on all while raising funds for food that will help friends and neighbors in need.
Tee time is 9am on Sept. 16, 2023. Golfers can enter the tournament as individuals, or join a foursome. If you’re not a golfer but still want to contribute, HCC invites individuals, clubs and businesses to sponsor a hole or a foursome, or donate raffles and silent auction items.
Among raffle prizes and a silent auction items that have already been donated are tickets for Burning Man 2024 and Night in the Country 2024, as well as tickets to a 2023 Styx and REO Speedwagon concert in Reno.
HCC’s volunteer-powered food pantries welcome help in keeping up with the important cause of supplying food for hundreds of local families in need. Fighting hunger is not only an important cause, but a cause for unified action.
“The golf tournament is a wonderful opportunity to support our neighbors and have some friendly competitive fun at the same time,” said HCC Executive Director Wendy Madson. “We are so thankful to our community businesses, partners and tournament hosts for supporting our efforts.”
ABOUT HCC’s FOOD PANTRIES: During the 2023 program year, HCC’s three food pantries served nearly 10,000 unique individuals and distributed well over two million pounds of food at an estimated value of over four million dollars. More than half of those using HCC’s food pantries are children and older adults. In addition, the pantries’ backpack program provides weekend meals for children, with an average of 11,000 meals provided for students in Lyon County schools each month during school year 2022.
HCC Deputy Director Lisa Selmi explains that the numbers of those in need are going up and “everyone is feeling the crunch. With the rising cost of food and gas and the recent post-COVID rollback of SNAP benefits, we’re seeing an increase in the number of people needing help putting food on the table. This annual golf fundraiser is very helpful and we are grateful to Dayton Valley Golf Club.”
