Letter: Former host of Good Day Carson explains why the show ended and calls on community leaders
(The former host of Good Day Nevada speaks out about the mistreatment and lack of integrity in the business venture of NGBN.TV and its founder.)
As some of you may know, I was part of a project and show called Good Day Carson, that then turned into Good Day Nevada. I hosted & produced this local show for a year. I was extremely passionate about this show and poured my heart into it every single day.
As you can see this show is no longer, and not because it was cancelled or was not working. But sadly because of the leader, the boss, and his intolerable behavior and actions, that seem to just be a pattern of how he conducts business and treats others.
This person was someone who not only myself but my fellow employees and my own fiancé trusted and gave our all to, only to be taken advantage of or tossed out like we did not matter when we spoke up.
Though this company went through the ups and downs that most startups do, this soon became an excuse to treat employees poorly, take advantage of their work and not pay them.
Myself and others were working 12-hour days, weekdays, and usually on the weekends to make this show and other business ventures happen. This so called “leader” would play off of our emotions and passions, it was a mind game of manipulation from the start. He calls himself a humanitarian and often used that to convince us of certain ventures, but in the end, we only saw someone that was out for himself and would take advantage of community members left and right, he even went as far as writing a lease with loop holes, on purpose.
Many community members were taken advantage of because of this show and the way our “leader” chose to treat them. For that I personally apologize.
The repercussions from this selfish leader and “business” were large, I lost my car due to no pay and my fiancé and I fell behind almost 5 months on rent. And this doesn’t even compare to the thousands of dollars people have invested, including family members and friends.
Sometimes mistreatment gets put up with because there is hope that change will come and the good impact will ultimately win in the end.
But I had to decide enough was enough. For my own health, family and financial state. No boss or owner is allowed to belittle, control, brain wash or plainly not pay an employee and dispose of them like trash. Over and over again.
Yes, most employees did file with the labor board and are still trying to receive the paychecks and investments we are still owed, but unfortunately nothing has been done still. This member of the community is still out there conducting business as if nothing ever happened, and some may say this is “just how business works”, but I would disagree. I call on leaders in this community to start holding people accountable for things like this, because this is not the first time this has happened within our community by the same people over and over, and that does not contribute to a healthy, thriving, honest community.
Though there is a lot I am still left to deal with after this last year of navigating these waters. I am beyond grateful to the community, to all those that have reached out and to for the connections I have made.
Thank you,
Kassandra Butterfield
