Court Appointed Special Advocates for children needed in Carson City area
In our community we believe that children deserve to grow up in safe and loving homes. At times, children may witness severe domestic violence between their parents, are afraid for their safety when their parents are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or have parents struggling to remain stable due to severe mental health issues. These children are growing up in unstable situations and feel alone and scared.
When children are removed from their home due to allegations of abuse and neglect they enter the child welfare system. There they meet many individuals — social workers, attorneys, teachers. What they need is that one constant, compassionate adult who advocates for their needs and is their voice in the child welfare system.
Children who grow up in tough situations need someone in their corner. Someone who will speak on their behalf and ensure that a Judge knows what has happened to them and ways to help them heal.
That person is a CASA volunteer, a trained community volunteer who dedicates their time to lend their voice and ensure that children receive the help they need to heal from their abuse, neglect or trauma.
There are 7 local CASA programs that currently serve children in 8 of Nevada's counties.
There are 708 CASA volunteer advocates that speak up for 1,274 of Nevada's abused and neglected children.
3,500 of Nevada's children in foster care are still in need of an advocate.
That advocate may be you! Join us for an Informational Session about what it is to be a CASA Volunteer and sign up for CASA Volunteer training. We look forward to seeing you! Click on the flier for a list of dates for the sessions.
