Hall of Fame Reno broadcaster to speak at Monday's Carson City Democratic luncheon
The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sam Shad, host of Nevada Newsmakers, the state’s premier news and political program. Sam has been covering Nevada politics on radio, television, online and via podcasts for the past 27 years. During this time he has interviewed every major political figure in the Silver State. He was inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2000.
Sam Shad started in Reno radio on KGLR in 1978. His first foray into the position of talk show host was in 1990 with a radio program on KHIT, which later moved to KROW 780 AM where he also did daily commentaries.
In the early nineties, Sam hosted The Daytime Show on KOLO-TV, the ABC affiliate in Reno, which leaned heavily towards politics. In 1994 he hosted the critically acclaimed Monday at Four program on the same station, which highlighted debates between candidates in that year's election races. For every election from 1994 through 2002, Sam served as political interviewer for KOLO-TV's morning show. He also hosted Nevada Newsmakers on that channel for ten years.
In 2003, Nevada Newsmakers moved to the NBC affiliate KRNV-TV. A year later, the program also began airing on KVBC-TV in Las Vegas. It is currently available online at NevadaNewsmakers.com and as an audio or video podcast on iTunes. On radio, it airs on Newstalk 780 KOH in Reno on Sundays from 7am to 9am. New programs are made available by midday on Monday through Thursday. Sam can be reached via email at sam@shad.reno.nv.us.
Sponsored by the Carson City Democratic Men's Committee, this event is scheduled for noon on Monday, June 28th. Sam will be presenting via Zoom, but those wishing to enjoy the luncheon in a pot luck social setting may attend in person at Democratic HQ, 502 E John St. Those wishing to be on distribution for luncheon links should email Rich Dunn, Men's Committee Events Coordinator, at richdunn@aol.com.
