Special Olympics gold medal winner from Carson City
Last week Carson City's Lakisha Taylor, 27, joined other athletes from around the country at the Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, FL. On June 8, 2022 Lakisha won 1st place in the 100 meter dash and received a gold medal.
Before flying to Orlando, Lakisha spent the night at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas. Lakisha was excited to see her name and photo on their marquies. The following day she and the other Special Olympics athletes from Nevada had dinner at Hell's Kitchen with players from the Las Vegas Raiders.
When not competing in Orlando the athletes visited Disney World and were treated to a dance their last evening there.
Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and physical disabilities, providing year round training and activities to 5 million participants and Unified Sports Parners in 172 countries.
