A Chautauqua Workshop and Rosie the Riveter Kick Off June at Dangberg Historic Park
A Chautauqua workshop and Chautauqua performance, by nationally acclaimed Chautauquan Mary Ann Jung, will be held Saturday, June 17 of the 2023 Dangberg Summer Festival.
For those interested in learning to be a Chautauquan, or honing their skills, a workshop on the topic will be held on Saturday, June 17, from 10:00 am until Noon. The workshop is open to ages 14 years and older and will include a presentation on the history and influence of the origins of the Chautauqua movement by Debbe Nye, as well as interactive instruction by award winning actress and Smithsonian scholar Mary Ann Jung.
Ms. Jung has appeared on CNN, Today Show, and Good Morning America, and portrays several nationally known historic figures. The workshop fee is $50 and includes entry to all ticketed Dangberg Chautauqua events in 2023. Advance registration is required. More information about registration can be found at Dangberg.org.
A special Chautauqua event on Saturday, June 17, from 1:00 until 2:00pm will feature award-winning Chautauquan Mary Ann Jung portraying Rosie the Riveter, honoring America's World War II home front heroes.
In World War II, women joined the U.S. workforce by the millions to replace men who had gone off to fight. Mary Ann Jung presents the delightful story of Rosie the Riveter through the eyes of Rose Leigh Monroe who worked at the largest aircraft factory in the world, Willow Run in Michigan. You will learn which came first, the Rosie posters, song, or real women who worked in factories to help America win the war. The answer to who the real Rosie is, is fun and riveting.

This season’s Chautauqua programs are all funded in part by a generous grant from Nevada Humanities and National Endowment for the Humanities.
“Chautauqua has become very popular here at Dangberg Historic Park,” said Kim Harris, the park’s events manager. “Our audiences seem to really enjoy being able to step back in time and meet the real historic figure in person.”
